How's a going, Feargal? Ah, I had a great time travelling around but unfortunately the bank account wouldn't allow me go any further so decided to settle in Brisbane. Plenty of boxing around here so that'll keep me happy!

As egg boxer said above, Dennis Hogan won via 7th round stoppage.

It was a exciting little scrap and was made even better by the electric atmosphere created mainly by the Irish fans. Hogan's opponent, Nathan Carroll was taller and proved very awkward in the first 3 rounds but I still thought Hogan did enough to win the 1st and the 3rd with the 2nd round even on my card. Hogan really upped the pace in the 4th and was landing his impressive left hook at will and Carroll looked hurt a few times. The 5th was much of the same except Hogan was starting to combine his left hook with accurate stiff uppercuts and right hooks. The 6th started a bit quieter but Carroll looked tired from the previous two rounds of the Irishmans dominance and Hogan was again starting to land at will with Carroll offering little resistance. Surprisingly, Carroll came off his stool in the 7th and looked fresher and was landing a bit but he quickly gassed. Hogan capitalised and started to fire in the left and right hooks and it was the latter that dropped Carroll with 45 seconds of the round remaining, albeit with the aid of a slight push by Hogan, but it was clear the Australian was close to the end. Carroll gamely got to his feet for the mandatory 8 count and the referee gave him the signal to fight on. Hogan showed his natural finishing ability by hammering in hooks to his opponents body and when Carrolls guard started to drop, Hogan moved back upstairs and pummelled him with a vicious combination in Carrolls corner. The ref correctly stopped the local lad on his feet with 3 seconds remaining in the round.

Overall I was impressed with Hogan. Once he gets going he is very accurate and he really does possess a beautiful left hook which comes from nowhere. One slight criticsism I would have is that he sometimes stands a bit upright and therefore his chin is exposed. He is out again on the 24th of April and that will be his tenth fight in 12 months so he is staying very active.

Lack of power and suspect defense are major problems with Jamie, the 2nd of those could probably be rectified to a reasonable degree were he to get more time with Roach, the 1st is a serious concern which may always be there.

Positives are that he seems to have good speed, workrate, stamina and puts his combinations together really well. He's got a very good left hook to the body aswell. At least he has age on his side, but there's plenty of work to be done. I've no doubt he'll mature and improve as a fighter, the question is will he'll do so enough to reach a level that we'd like, and a level that his amateur career suggested.
