I wrote a big long winded response but decided to erase it and simply think out loud... Wonder what ppl were saying about Mikkel Kessler up to his 33rd fight or so (which is the same number of fights as Mundine now).
Good point. Many Euro fighters are guilty of biding their time when waiting for their shot. Though it's also easier for Aus fighters to climb up in the rankings quicker than Euro fighters, simply because titles like the PABA (which get you ranked) are much easier to win, and easier to get than the ones going around in Europe. Mundine did get on the big scene quicker than most though. His plan back then (when he started boxing) was to win a WT in 2 years, go back to league and defend it once a year. His eagerness to get his shot was his undoing, but credit to hikm for jumping out in the deep end straight away. Had Mundine been managed by a Saudeland (sp), his stocks would be much higher now, and his record would look much better than 30 - 3. Though theres no way Mundine would have waited 25 or so fights to get a shot.
Good post. Comparing resume to Lucian Bute, who has taken on Berrijo (spelling) and Bika in recent times is a pretty silly idea IMO. As for Calzaghe, he copped plenty of flack over his opposition until recently. I remember before the Lacy bout, most fans considered Calzaghe to be another Ottke, in terms of opposition. Mundines recent opponents have been worse then either Ottke or Calzaghe at any stage of their careers as champions. There really is no defending it. Hamden should never be considered a TEST for anyone on Mundines level.
but once he became champion he fought quality opponents except a shot lucas who is still far better than chocs 3 title defences.he partially unified and lost gunning for the man of the division.chocs fighting lower level opponents racking up w's on his resume.not the actions of a self proclaimed super athlete and magnificent creation.still hes a hell of a self promoter and is making big $ i suppose.
I have not been around much lately but I must say the quality of avatars has improved, good work Pecks and Teke!
Still there was an abundance of easy beats among his first 33 fights, alot more than Mundines. Maybe Mundine is the man for taking on better opposition at a waaay faster rate, ever thought about it in that light :yep:deal You could say he dared to be great from the beginning taking on Ottke :deal Just a few pts to ponder :hey
I completely agree with what you're saying. The early part of his professional career was incredible. He was taking on Australia's and in some cases, the world's best, straight off the bat. It's just disappointing watching his career peter-out, milking the Australian public with shambolic title defences against opponents that aren't likely to take the belt away from him.
Earth to Ajay .. Earth to Ajay :rofl Mundine needs to fight Bika to determine who the best S/Middle livin in Australia is ,:deal Given Mundines recent level of opponentsatsch i reckon its no give me to Mundine ....I feel a new Thread coming on ,,Mundine v Bika ????
You complete raving ****WIT..... Mundine had talent scouts scouring every nursing home in Australia for suitable opponents..... GEEZ..... The Aussie forum is still populated by ****ing ******s.atsch
i strongly disagree:think i actually hope mundine gets a broken jaw, then i`d like to see him talk ****!the retarted sound that would come from his mouth would match the rest of him..he`s too scared to fight well known boxers..he`s more interested in no namers..so sorry teke dont agree with anythin you say about mundine:verysad
