Because he will easily dismantle Cotto. Not that I have a problem with the fight. Top guys from the same Era and same weights are supposed to meet but Cotto does not have a chance in this one.

it shows how much of a realistic chance cotto has.... pac vs JMM ..fight #1.2. or 3?
Hopkins was in his 40s and had lost 3 out of his last 5 while pavlik was undefeated in his prime and had been the middleweight champion by beating the guy 2 times that beat hopkins... 5-1 odds sound pretty realistic in that case. a champion being 6-1 underdog shows you that the belt means nothing nor does the weight of 154 because cotto and him have fought at the same weight for years...cotto was 147 the last time mayweather fought at 154.
no matter how you slice it, cotto is a mismatch while the fighters who actually have a chance to win wont ever get a shot because <insert excuse that best fits>

The third fight they just had, Pac was a 9/1 favorite

You're only proving my point. The odds were a reflection of the confidence the betting public had in both fighters, not a reflection of how the fight would go. Pavlik had to come up two weight classes to face someone who would pose him all sorts of stylisitc issues.

The odds simply show you that the betting public firmly believes that Mayweather will win.

Pacquiao is the only fighter around his weight class that anyone believes has a shot at beating Mayweather. While Mayweather is not helping issues by asking for more than 50%, you also can't ignore the fact that Arum flat out said the fight was happening May 5th. First it was because of cut, and then it was because he wanted to build a stadium that wouldn't be ready until Mayweather was firmly behind bars. Cotto was the best available option out there. And while Cotto doesn't match up well with Mayweather, nobody really does.

Because Mayweather is expected to win by 100% of boxing heads. Everybody that isn't from Puerto Rico knows that Cotto has very little chance to even be competitive, let alone win.

Nobody in their right mind would bet on Cotto in this fight unless they just like losing money.
