He isn't taking a beating because he's fighting smaller guys like Winky Wright(who was also past his prime, especially at 170 pounds), but you can watch him fight and tell clearly he isn't the same. His workrate has gone down considerably, and he's slowed down physically. Watch a prime Hopkins(say against Glenn Johnson) and compare him to the recent Hopkins. No comparison. Against smaller, weaker guys that are passing their prime as well like Wright, he still looks lackluster, but gets the win. Against someone his own size, closer to his best, with as high a workrate, and as much speed, skill, and craftiness to match as Calzaghe, he won't simply be able to pot-shot and hold his way to a decision win.
not argueing you know your boxing but u gotta admit da old dog still got some fight in him i think enough to beat calzaghre who is very over rated and not in his league but thats my opinion
missed Richie Woodhall, Charles Brewer, Bika, Omar Sheika and Manfredo... Add those and i dont think his record looks too bad!!
Dude that shits hilarious! Oh ya, and Mayweather hands down. Matter of fact, if Mayweather moved up, I think he'd hand Calzaghe a beating.
What evidence do you have to say that he ducked Casamayor at 130? Especially when he beat the #1 contender there, Diego Corrales, and a lot more Top10 contenders. Let's remember that Casamayor was beltholder since 2000 but wasn't involved in any big fights until 2002, when Mayweather was already leaving the division.
Oh Yeh, if he can finish his career in style with maybe Hopkins, Dawson and Pavlik I think he is a possible hall of famer!! BUT a long way to go yet!!
This is another excuse to **** on Calzaghe, again. Can't people see he is one of the best fighters of tthis generation? He's a fantastic fighter.
So proper list for Calzaghe is -Chris Eubank -Robin Reid -Mario Veit -Byron Mitchell -Mario Veit -Jeff Lacy -Mikkel Kessler -Richie Woodhall -Omar Sheika -Charles Brewer -Bika -Manfredo
Adding Richie Woodhall, Charles Brewer, Bika, and Omar Sheika doesn't make it such a bad resume. As a fellow Philadelphian BHop was never keen on a fight with Brewer so all this crap about tomato cans filling calzaghe's resume is over the top. He has a couple of duds on there but so does every top fighter. The only fights he could've come to the good ole US for were Hopkins and Jones and they've only wanted the fights now. His resume would look much better if he resided the other side of the Atlantic i'm sure
