Don't know why he would, isn't like Allen did anything to make him even think he would lose. Just like Dawson didn't.

Great clip. I remember having my doubts when I watched it live (98?) and still do after watching this. Allen was troubling him in this fight, as I recall. Thought of it when he tried to quit in jones 2 and quit on Dawson. Not as bad as cintron's stage dive against Paul Williams, though.

Don't know, don't care. I just know that he whipped Allen's ass in the rematch.

No, counterpunchers like Hopkins often starts slow, before they figure their opponents rythm. Hopkins chose to use is dirty tactics in that last clinch, got overzealous and off-balance to the point that a little shove from the ref forced him to take a side step... of the ring and it's quite high.

There is no reason why a healthy athlete would get injured after simply rolling out of a 3 foot high ring.

I think he faked it but at the same time I know he could have been killed when he fell backwards out of the ring. I remember some boxer died that way.

Yes. That's why I didn't buy his performance against Dawson. I'd already seen this fight from back in the day.

Even Mills Lane said words to the effect of......I dont think he's quitter, only no one was claiming he was quitter, which said to me Mills thought he quit.

Hopkins is a rhythm breaker. Only if he perceives he's gonna be in for a long night he will pack it in, regroup, and come back on another day with a more clear idea of what he needs to do. I believe this is what happened against Allen & Dawson.

He tried to bum-rush Dawson and Dawson was wise to his rushes. He realized he was gonna have trouble trying to shake Dawson out of his rhythm, and knew he was potentially in for a long night, so he took advantage of the shove off.

Hopkins is a gutter dog when it comes to his mentality. He will do ANYTHING. He will claim to be gangsta but then start complaining to the ref to try and get points taken(Calzaghe, Jones 2, Dawson). Of coarse he will do this whilst bending the rules himself.
