Jose Luis Castillo arguably beat Floyd or fought to a draw but was hardly a fencing artist. Zab was causing trouble with other punches.

i feel that if you don't jab vs floyd you make it far too easy for him to counter you and render your over punches useless, you have to give him a lot to think about. obviously there are many other factors.

The jab can be used to occupy Mayweather, but you'd need an elite jab and to be able to double and tripple it up. IMO.

That said, fighters with other attributes would have other game plans that could work.

I always thought you needed a right hand to fight him. Oscar had success with doubling up the jab and stepping in with it until Floyd killed Oscar's standard jab with his own variety of jabs. Oscar's basic jab was no match for Floyd's variety of flickers and shanks to the body. Oscar's one handed converted southpaw AZZ had no extra firepower or right hand to answer back with.

as Floyd showed against Omar, the more punches u throw, he will avoid them all, and counter between each one..his reflexes have jumped to a whole new level..his ability to think in small spurts, and throw accurate punches on impulses...I think a swarmer would get KO'd by Floyd...a swarmer vs the Mayweather that fought Ortiz would have a good chance...but a swarmer vs the Mayweather that toyed with Omar, would get damaged up pretty bad and KO'd

Yep I'd agree. You're not beating Mayweather based on one damn punch.

Left hand to occupy him, and you need to be able to use the right in various ways, and also work the left. Hook off the jab etc. Variation. Needs to be constant too, if you pause to play chess you're getting embarrased.

I think the only way to beat mayweather is go right after him. I think cotto will pull the upset

Use the jab, double and triple it to back Mayweather up in a straight line (he willing does this at times). At this point, throw plenty of feints in, especially feinting to the body. Then create an angle to get some punches off.

To have success against Mayweather, very fast, good footwork is needed IMO, moreso than the jab.
