good comeback...even though he was practicly given the title. i sort of enjoyed it how the wbc where ****ed over when they dropped joel casamayor for wanting to unify the titles against juan diaz....(still clueless) then gave the title to david diaz and just gave morales the shot with the knowledge that he would beat a limted fighter like D.Diaz. then got outboxed. the egg on sulaimans face was like he bought a dodgy motor.

but aside from that and that casamyor - morales was a fight we missed out on. he gave his ****ing all. great for him. this last run was almost jordan/sheringhamesque. great go and surprised alot of people.

 

Makes it even more incredible, doesn't it? You could be forgiven for watching that fight and thinking he was going to get badly hurt after a few rounds - then he spent much of the fight outclassing Maidana. If you'd said to me a year ago that he'd fight Maidana and then sign to fight Matthyse I'd have been worried for his health - by the end of last summer I was gutted that the fight with Matthyse was off.

And then he goes and pulls off a great fight with a relative unknown in Cano.

 

He's cut from a different cloth.

His comeback gave off the feeling that he didn't give a **** what weight he was at, who he was fighting or anything to do with money. It was like he was just reminding the world that he's Erik Morales and we better not forget him anytime soon. Total badass and legit ATG. I don't remember him complaining at all about the Maidana decision even though most people felt he won, it was enough that he defied logic by not only surviving but outboxing and hurting Maidana all the while with one eye shut.

considering the barrera trilogy was almost 20 years ago and hes still fighting legit world class fighters, Legend of the sport!!

Love reading these 'tribute' threads you guys are so eloquent and appreciative! Got goose bumps reading some of these I know I will one day bore the tits of my grankids going on about Barrera and morales... They don't build em like that anymore etc. etc. Hope he has many happy nights away from the sport he certainly gave us enough in it.
