    This is something that had me perplexed for years but after the Linares fight I really started to think I mean...the guy he lost to was just above cab driver status in my opinion...great heart but....talent...no

    let me hear your thoughts on these guys my brothers (this excludes Judah & Jones Jr)

    Linares
    Dawson
    Dirrell (breaks my heart...to be honest)
    Degale
    Alexander
    Berto (to some degree)
    Ortiz (to some degree)
    Juanma Lopez
    Pascal (not talented in terms of skills, but as natural athlete)

    Almost all of the fighters you listed are glass jawed.

    Just goes to show you that Talent don't mean **** if you don't have toughness or skills. Especially when it comes to boxing.

    Considering 5 of them have only lost once appears that your jumping to conclusions for many. Give it 2-3 years and we'll have a good judgement if they're wasted talent or not, but realistically you should wait for their career to be over before you make judgements like this. Who knows who (if anyone) pascal, Dawson etc will be fighting in 7-8 years from now

    Talent is overrated. Research has shown that dedication, discipline and work-ethic far out weight any natural talent. Talent doesn't hurt, but it doesn't make a world-class athlete without other necessary ingredients.

    Yeah. Don't know how you can compare the way things have been going for Linares with any of those others listed, except for maybe Juanma.

    All those others are still highly rated. Linares, not so much(even before this last fight).

    Degale has had 12 fights. Did you expect him to be world champ by now. Give him time first.

    But people often misstake for talent for hard work.

    An example; Floyd mayweather he has talent yes but we can't even GRASP the amount of hardwork he has put in to get to where he is today. He traines alot more than any other fighter and that's why he is succesfull.

    The thing that often seperate the most succesfull and those who aren't are all about the work they have put in. It's all about how discipline they are about their sport.

    Exactly. Its the law of repetition. Repeating the same movements, techniques and processes over and over and over again. That's what makes world-class athletes and performers.

    Micheal Jackson was a world-class performer not just because he was born 'gifted' but because he was known to insiders to be working his stage and dance-routines for up to 16 hours each day. He'd continue his training even when his co-performers collapsed or fell over from sheer exhaustion.

    Perfection is born from routine and training, not from talent.

    This question was put forth because of the views I have observed on this site...not necessarily just my own...the Linares fight made me want to ask this question due to the types of comments and reactions I saw.

    I concur, however like I have said in previous threads on this site I have seen many comments regarding losing being the end of fighter's career...example Dirrell. Due to both his peformances in the S6 many have stated he has no real future at elite level. Many times i have argued he has, my point being what you said makes sense to me, but I don't see responses like that often.

    What I see is...Berto is a bum, Dawson, Ortiz & Dirrell Mentally weak no future...Pascal is was never good.
