Roy wins easy because Sugar Ray was really a welterweight.

    Ruleset?

If it's a same-day weigh in, Jones isn't making it unless he's seriously green or hurts himself.

24hour weigh ins the 155lb Robinson get's KO'd by a Jones coming into the ring around 170lbs

We can say this for allot of match ups, Jones would suffer making weight in the same way Lamotta did but be bigger and stronger in the ring (like Lamotta), either that or we have to take a Jones who's a year or 2 younger.

I'm not sure prime Robinson gets KO'd here...but I do agree with you that giving up 15lbs and more to a fighter like Jones is prohibitive. Robinson has to be able to impact his much greater experience on offence and i'm not sure that's possible against a super-middleweight of this quality.

I don't actually think the fight can be made in a "fair" way.

Voted too close to call. (Assuming we can somehow make sure Jones comes in at the actual weight limit, which is impossible.)

I say it's very close because like him or not, Jones had freakish handspeed and very good power at middleweight. Very hard guy to fight if you can't outmuscle him.

15 rounds 24 hour weigh in.

    For the ruleset that is.

The RJJ that fought Hopkins wouldn't go 5 rounds with the Robinson that beat LaMotta on Valentine's Day. No way. The RJJ/Hopkins fight would have been a 6 rlound prelim in the Robinson era.

    That seems extreme.

I od think Robinson against La Motta is the greatest filmed fighter in history but noone destroys jones in 5 rounds unless they land a 1 punch ko.

Thought Roy usually came in under 170 for his middleweight fights? He was only about 180-odd at 175 wasn't he?

Hard to say, between his title fights he was fighting at SMW.

Usually a guy with that physique doesn't put on too much weight so I'd assume it'd definitely less than 10 pounds between weigh and fight night but I'd need a screen shot of the tape tale to be sure.

I think Roy just lacks the experience. Put in lhw Roy against the Robinson who fought Maxim and I wouldn´t hesitate to pick him but at mw .... nah, he simply isn´t experienced enough to deal with someone like Robinson. Don´t think too much about mw Jones, he´d get away with his lack of expeirence against a lot of top fighters at mw but not against an offensive machine like Sugar Ray, even with a weight advantage.
