Bernard Hopkin vs. William Joppy, Hopkins most underrated performance

trinidad blew joppy out the water. hopkins went the distance with the same dude. he also head butted the **** out of him the whole fight.

 

I agree. i thoroughly enjoyed this performance. hopkins was very sharp that night and beat joppy up on the outside and the inside. I remember they made a wager this fight and hopkins bet joppy something like $100,000 he wouldn't last the full twelve. joppy ended up going the distance in this fight but he paid a price, by the time the final bell had rang his face was so swollen he looked like the elephant man.

 

Styles make fights. Trinidad was an amazing finisher whereas Hopkins was always a technician. He totally dominated Joppy and almost finished him (Joppy was hard to finish).

 

Bernard Hopkins at MW was number two behind Marvin Hagler IMO.

Hopkins is a victim of his own skill. many of his opponents would be much greater if they never faced Hopkins. He's the F@%CK!NG Executioner! and he was like 38 years old in this fight. and the fact that Trinidad KO'd Joppy before the fight is more a tribute to Trinidad, and less a knock on Joppy. Unless of course you're a typical hater.

A point about Eras :

Bernard Hopkins makes 20 title defences at MW, holds the belts for years and people have the nerve to say he's never fought anyone. Hopkins gets pushed out by Taylor and all of a sudden 160lbs is alive, Taylor, Wright, Pavlik, Abraham, Martinez etc.

One division north at 168lbs, Joe Calzaghe is Champion for a number of years, he makes 20 + defences and people have the nerve to say he's never fought anybody. Calzaghe goes to 175lbs and boom the division is alive with Ward, Froch, Bute, Dirrell, Kessler, Andrade, Green, Bika etc.

One division higher North at LHW, Roy Jones is Champion for a number of years and makes multiple defences. People again say he has fought nobody. Roy declines and all of a sudden the division is alive with Tarver, Johnson, Dawson, Pascal, Hopkins and Calzaghe, etc

Point is that people tend to dismiss rather than appreciate in Boxing. These three were better than their competition at their weight class and all three have had their reigns scrutanized by so called Boxing fans.

 

William joppy was a very exiting fighter he fought green great fights

 

Hopkins put a beat down on Joppy, made his face look like a pitbull. That card was pretty good , Mayorga-Spinks, and two heavyweight fights if IIRC. I think Hatton was fighting that night too, as I remember recording the PPV on my vcr and my dad switching the channels. I haven't seen that fight in a long time, but remember being pretty hyped up about it.

 

There is some truth in this, same goes for Triple G today and Wlad dominated for 11 years and now he's at the end and everyone saying the division is coming alive with Ortiz, Joshua, Wilder etc

 

Hopkins was sharp this night and Joppy was a solid pro
