Pacquiao to use the DLH fight gameplan (lateral movement & angles) against Bradley

I agree that he shouldn't focus on outboxing his opponents. Though when they're referring to the DLH fight, I think they chose that template because they expect Bradley to come forward. There seem to be two basic ways to beat Manny; educated and dynamic pressure coming forward on the inside, and defensive lateral movement away from the left hand mixed in with counter-punching. I suspect Bradley is going to try both. Manny's biggest problem as of late has been being far too stationary, linear, and giving away his factor of unpredictability. He'd rather feint and "catch" his opponents with just a few punches now than seize an opening straight away.

The DLH fight highlights everything Pacquiao does best; throwing a variety of punches (when's the last time he threw a right hook to the body? Margarito?), circling right after landing the left hand, neutralizing the jab and right hand by circling, using his upper body to confuse his opponents, jumping to different angles to counter and walk his opponents into shots, etc. If Bradley comes forward, this is the way to go, and if Manny can stop following his opponents and cut off the ring better, using these tactics to come in with more dynamic angles is the best way to surprise and catch Bradley.

I don't see how this strategy makes sense against Bradley. Bradley won't stand still and he'll giving Pac different looks

You don't think he can turn Bradley? I think Bradley is going to be more dynamic than we've seen him in the past, so Manny is going to have to match his tactics by being the ring general. DLH isn't Bradley, but that doesn't ean he can't use angles. The article also mentions attacking his body as well to surprise him with something up top.

What would you have him focus on instead? :think

I think I was thinking too narrow mindedly when I first read it. I just got a picture of my head of Pacquiao coming at Bradley the exact same way he did against Oscar with the fight looking the same, so that's why I said that.

The general idea of the strategy is good though. Pacquiao is at his best when he's moving at angles. I just don't think he'll have as much success with it against Bradley, but that doesn't mind he should use it.

As usual, great post. Especially that bit highlighted. Which I know understand why they're talking about going back to the Oscar fight.

I believed him when he said he cramped up against Mosley. I thought the effects of a bad pair of legs were visibly obvious there.

You think he bullshitted about having bad legs against Juan though?

He used some right hooks against mosley.. the point is he cant necessarily use this strategy if Bradley is changing up his tactics. He has to adjust to that. If bradley starts moving laterally pac needs to focus on cutting off the ring and putting himself in the right position.

But I would say in general pac has gotten more flat footed since the Cotto fight, and he needs to go back to using his feet and giving angles. He's also not the explosive / speed demon that he used to be. That could be one of the reasons he's changed his style a bit.

Who has ever used this gameplan effectively against Pacquiao?
