First off, as former Top Rank fighters, they have a great deal of respect for each other. Which is the reason for the somewhat unusual respectful face off from Floyd. Keep in mind though, that Floyd is just as much as a psychological fighter as a physical one,IMO, even more. So him saying he thinks Miguel is an undefeated fighter, (which could be how he really feels), is given Miguel Cotto confidence that he has the capablities of beating Floyd. Next point is the reference to Cottos watch ... Floyd again is making Cotto feel good about himself, because as a master student of the game, Floyd knows that the one thing that the Margarito/Pac lost did too him was it somewhat stripped his confidence (though I think it has been fully restored) ...So for the best fighter in the sport to say these things about him, will do a lot for the psyche of Cotto, which will bring out the best Cotto Next point is the checking his bets on the tablet .. Max had just asked Cotto his thoughts on Floyd knocking out Ortiz .... Cotto gave a real respectful answer, but I think Floyd in a way wishes that Miguel would have said he didnt respect what Floyd did (I just think Floyd is slightly off), so he checked the score on the tablet to kind of in a way change the subject and be passively disrespectful becuase MC had an opportunity to make the faceoff more interesting Floyd knows MC has the capability to be a threat but he knows that Cotto's biggest attribute is having confidence in himself. Its almost as if Floyd sess more in him than what Miguel sees in himself (not saying Cotto isnt confident, becuase he definitely is) I believe Floyd is going to knock Cotto out at 154 .... If you notice in his last 2 fghts, he has been really aggressive and I think he will be looking to knockout his remaining opponents. The psycholoical warfare that is going on between these two is interesting if you read both fighters body language. Floyd is giving MC tons of respect, making Cootos confidence skyrocket that much more, which is playing into Floyds gameplan.
Interesting tactics by Floyd, maybe he is trying to be nice in the pre fight and then just unleash it on Cotto in the ring
The only problem with that is Cotto doesn't really believe what he says anyway. Before the promotion, he had that interview where he was asked by some radio guys if he was prepared or ready for any of Floyd's trash-talking and mind-games and he said nothing he could do would bother him, even if he was nice because he doesn't pay attention to a fighter's words, he just wants to get to work.
Thats my point. Floyd isn't lashing verbal assualts at Miguel for a reason, he knows the psyche of Cotto. They have known each other for years and had talks way beack when about a potential fight (just never got to negotiation table, thank Bob for that Plus of course he is going ot say he doesn't care what Floyd says he isn't going to say Floyd will bother me. But again, Cotto isn't a fool, I am sure he understands that Floyd is up to something, but still in all, for a fighter like Floyd to be so positive about him ,defintely is boosting his esteem.
You don't even believe this ****. PBF talks **** to guys he doesn't like period. He likes and respects both JMM and Cotto so that's why he didn't really go off on them. He didn't like Hatton, Oscar, Ortiz or Mosley and treated them accordingly. Him being scared is the reason why he talks **** is really reaching, wishful thinking at best.:deal
Honestly, I think Floyd anticipates boxing Cotto off the back foot. If he tame's Cotto before the fight, it makes the fight that much easier. Cotto will not be aggressive enough, and Floyd will win a relatively uneventful UD. If Floyd decides to be the aggressor, the fight will get interesting. In all honesty... I suspect that Floyd will try to keep the fight in the center of the ring, do his best to stay out of range, and perhaps patiently stalk Cotto, but do it mostly from the center of the ring, (like Klitschko vs Haye). Then I think Floyd may even allow Cotto to get inside, block most of his punches, tire him out, then get more aggressive and go for the finish to KO him in the late rounds. I don't know if anything can be taken from this faceoff to be honest. I'm not sure what Floyd's plan is or even if he has a plan to begin with. I'm sure he anticipates the fight going a certain way, but Floyd's proven time again that he's adaptable and ready for anything. The good thing about Cotto is that Cotto is also very versatile and honestly, I think this is the best opponent since DLH.
