Wlad's chin is underrated. He hasn't been down or hurt in 7 years. During that time, he became the IBF/WBO/WBA/IBO/RING Unified Heavyweight Champion of the world. He has made 12 consecutive title defenses. It's the longest title reign ever without getting knocked down.

 

Anyone who was watching boxing during the 90s knows that the heavyweight division was not consiered good at all. Its also true that Lewis was not respected during his time in boxing.

 

Lewis suffered from the same problem that plague Wlad Glass Jaw Syndrome, Lewis's case isn't as bad. They adopted a style given to them by Steward that have them jab and move backwards to make the smaller fighter lunge. No one likes to see the big guy in the ring run from the smaller guy, to most it cowardice. Vitali is a different beast he is the real heavyweight champion right now, but to everyone talking about how well he would do against ATG's. He lost to Lewis when Lewis was at the end of his career and his stamina was not as good as it had been. I was pulling for Vitali in that fight, because I want to see a I seek and destroy Heavy weight champion and at that time it was Vitali.

 

Very few eras are considered particuarly strong at the time, especially by fans who started watching during a previous era. However, it doesn't normally take too long after fighters retire for a consensus to be formed regarding their legacy.

Wlad (and to a lesser extent Vitali) have dominated the post-Lewis era, and will always have a place in history as a result of that. The problem is that both Wlad and Vitali have gaping holes in their resumes, which it is probably too late to do much about. Vitali is past his prime and slowing down, and there isn't the competition for Wlad to prove he has ATG intangibles to go with his formidable weapons. At the moment it looks inconceivable that either could ever be regarded as a top 5 heavyweight, but where they place after that will always be the subject of debate.
