Oscar dropped his jab because Floyd broke it with his own jab. He didn't do his standard counter the jab with his right in that fight, so many people miss what forced Oscar to jab less. Floyd's right was reserved mostly for counter Oscar's left hook.

Seeing Mayweather jab more than he usually does in his recent sparring footage suggests he'll be using the outjab the jabber strategy.

But that's different then what I mean. I'm talkin about if he can get Floyd on the ropes, than just bang away with bombs aimed at the body. If Floyd is going to cover his body with his arm then break that ****. lol you know what i'm sayin or no?

I hear what you're saying. Cotto(e) has to take the gamble and hit the arms in attempt to mess em up and not get timed while trying.

I won't put a clottey or mosley on the same level as mayweather in terms of being a ring technician, but with that said, they're far from slouches.

For the record, although I feel mayweather will win this fight, I don't think he's going to give miguel an arturo gatti like beatdown

    Nobody is stopping anybody!!!!

    Not with those pitter-patter punches.

In planning a strategy, you don't only consider the opponent, you also have to consider your fighter.

Are you saying that varying your offenses will somehow make Cotto successful? That scenario to happen, two things are requisite :

    1.

Honestly, could you say YES to both scenario?

When fighting a fighter who is far technical than you are, are you all saying that you have to match technical skills as well?

    It is either :

    A. You are all dumb
    B. You are all dumb
    C. You are all dumb

Cotto trying to outbox Gayweather is 100 per cent guarantee of losing the fight. No matter how he varies his attack which he does not have to begin with, Mayweather thrives on fighting distances that he will eventually adjust. And as what trainers always say, you can train them new skills, but once they get hit, they will always revert back to what they naturally do. That is hwat is is going to happen to Cotto once he gets hit.

A trainer who tries to change a fighter's style is an idiot. A trainer who actually tries to maximize what a fighter has is better. It is like teaching hatton to become a boxer against Pac. Once he got hit, he just reverted back to the face - first fighter.

Pressure behind a LONG jab...problem is, a long jab takes at least 6 months to teach..gotta be able to jab Floyd to put em off balance....follow up with the right hand and finish with the hook...problem-Cotto has a very short jab!

Looks like a decent gameplan except for two points: 1) it makes a risky assumption based on how Mayweather will fight based on his last to fights - what happens if "money" has a different gameplan for this one himself? 2) Say Mayweather does come out as the agressor and this strategy works - what happens when he switches up after going a few rounds behind? Mayweather isn't going to keep doing the same thing if it isn't working for him. You'd need to anticipate what Mayweather would do to counter you strategy if it did work.

Floyd lost more than a step. He does not react the same to punches. He can be shut down for long clips when hit to the body. He does not move his head.
Every time he is on the ropes opponents waste their energy head hunting. You need to loop punches around the elbow.

If Cotto commits to the body it could be a very VERY bad night for floyd.

    Oh my good god. :patsch

Yes Pejevan, we're all dumb and you're the only one who's right. You have a wealth of Boxing knowlege and are the poster boy for intelligent Pacquaio ***s/fans. He would be proud of you.

The problem with you is that when someone offers you an alternate way of doing the job, you become a sensitive ****!!! You expect everybody to actually swallow the garbage you have been spouting.

You never even considered how Gayweather would actually respond to your style of fighting.

Fighting long and varied? I see the genius behind it! Are you going to change a southpaw dominant fighter like Cotto, who throws his jab with his southpaw hand to fight with a jab too? Did you even considered these things?

I will ask Cotto to concentrate on 2 things:

    1. Stamina

    - Cotto should prepare as if he's going to fight for 15 rounds. He must build his stamina and must be in excellent condition during the fight.

    2. Body Punching

    - He should concentrate on the body. Throw combination punches to the body as if there's no tomorrow. He must stalk Mayweather with one intent - to break his rib cage. Quick jabs to the head to start his attack and when Money May bends backwards, he must throw his powerful and well placed hooks to the body.

I respectfully disagree, Cotto's jab gets good extenstion on his jab and streches a good portion of his body thus generating excellent power from this classic punch. He's also shown a good right hand as of late one thats delivered at a shorter distance than say...Mosely's right hand that landed on Floyd just after or right before the desired impact point to create optimum damage.
