Liston had just about all the physical advantages except height. Longer jab, harder puncher, probably slightly quicker with better footwork. The only type of fighter that gave him trouble were cuties and they didn't trouble him much either in his prime. If I had to bet my house on it I would choose Sonny. Far from a lock though. Vladamir, those fights came when Sonny was old and likely as not doping up on heroin. He was a legit terrifying monster in his day. For the other guy saying Sonny only had one title defense, that's because Cus D'Amato and Floyd Patterson were scared shitless of Sonny and kept the title on ice for years. They didn't fight him until they had absolutely no choice and Sonny was already pretty old by the time he got Patterson in the ring.
atsch..who the **** did Liston beat to prove that he could KO Vitali? Liston was considered a beast among the 190pounders that populated the early to mid 60's. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZQRExcO9aA[/ame] There's this thing that no one considers, and that's putting things into perspective. No one realise that the **** he pulled out against scrawny CW wouldn't work against this dude. and why the **** does everybody says that he was faster; yeah he might have been faster then 40 year old Vitali , but not young Vitali. There were plenty of big guys around back in the day too. Thing is... once you're up above 200 lbs or so you're big enough to knock any human being out.
Vitali in a UD I think. He has a great chin and I think enough techincal ability to outscore Liston. Can't see him knocking him out. The Jab would be Listons best weapon but what does he do when Vitali keeps coming at him? FTR both fighters have quit fights. Might be a test of wills that I'd expect VK to come out on top in.
Vitali beats him up like he stole something from him. I mean maybe not THAT easy but I can't see much danger for Vitali in this fight. I think he would just slowly beat Liston down in a relaxed fashion. Also, I voted for the wrong thing too.
I voted wrong as well. Liston wins this one, Someone wrote that Liston had one title defense, He won the title from Patterson, defended it again in a rematch and then he was unlucky enough to face, yep, we all know who. Nobody would have beaten the young fast Cassius Clay, later known as simply THE GREATEST.
