I've came across travellers in gyms in my time in boxing, some stay at the same gym and are decent boxers. Some are lazy and turn up spordically- so they aint that different from anyone else. I wouldn't say they were especially tough or anything, infact some I was surprised at how soft many were, esp as they have a reputation for fighting.

As for gypsies in the UK? i would say most people I know would be wary of them and mistrustfull. They would assume that a high proportion of them would be thieves and would try and rip you off by doing shody work or selling sub standard goods.

Thank you so much for the input guys. This has been very eye opening for me. I do plan on watching the bareknuckle doc as I downloaded it in the past. I had no clue Andy Lee's family were travelers. I'm assuming he didn't travel much himself as a kid no? As for them being shady characters, why is it that on the Gypsy Wedding show (sorry, that's as far as my insight into their lives goes), the men are super secretive when talking about money? Do you believe that many of them are involved in any criminal activity? And how do they have so much funds to spend on elaborate weddings and communions? Is it because they don't have a mortgage to pay off?

The tv pays for it, thats why theyve gone overboard in most cases, like taking a kid in a sweetshop and saying take whatever you want.:hi:

Irish travellers were once the poorest people in Ireland, dirt poor, only about 30 or 40 years ago, a lot are known for being dodgy but a lot are legit aswel .i think they dont like talking bout it because alot of their work would be cash work hence they wouldnt pay tax etc

I have no problem with anyone that pays their way and contributes to the state.

I don't have a major problem with someone not paying their way and not taking anything from the state.

I have a major problem with someone refusing to contribute to the state and demanding help from the state at every juncture!!!

For real eh? So is it true then that a lot of them are afraid to admit they are travelers? I got the impression that they were a proud group, and not ones to deny their heritage.

Michael Maguire is a traveler based here in Peterborough and was an outstanding amateur.

I'm pretty sure that there are travellers in Britain of both Romany and Irish descent. I believe the 2 communities mixed.

Bussiness is bussiness, people are prejudice against travelers, gypsys, and it being nown will finish them, you only need to listen to posts on here, you know, if you rang the plumber, and you recognised him from gypo wedding the night before, not good for bussiness.:p:think:lol:

I got absolutely annihilated by a 13 year old gypsy kid in sparring when I was 16 was pretty embarrassing! His dad was there going mad and I can still hear his thick gypsy accent now "go on son, finish him" but apart from that always found um an ok bunch when I've got to know them at the gym or at church as a kid

knew a few from sandygate boxing club in burnley. one i remember, gypo john(which is what most of em were called:D) ripped his gloves off half way through a fight in accrington and twated the other fellow, was funny as ****. got banned for life.

i have no problem with gypsies,as long as they clean up after themselfs then its fine,if they leave the area a shithole, then they are ****ing wankers :thumbsup
