In a recent interview with Brian Doogan, WBC/WBO/WBA super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe said that he's willing to move back down in weight for a fight with WBC/WBO middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik.

The fight would have to be at least 168.. no chance of any lower. Pavlik isn't experienced enough for the likes of Calzaghe yet. It would be bordering on embarrasing.

Pavlik's style is perfect for Calzaghe. Joe would pick him apart all night and stop him some time before the end.

Be a fair fight to make, but Pavlik would certainly struggle.

Pavlik is very basic. Good at the basic things but there is absolutely nothing subtle about his style.

His lack of variety, tempo, head/body movement make him easy picking for Calzaghe, so long as Calzaghe is still physically able. Pavlik' jab would be exposed.

No ****, this would be interesting to watch. Hope it happens. It seems almost unfair, though.

Calzaghe should concentrate on and win his fight against Hopkins.

    Then fight Pavlik

Then finish his career in a megafight against RJJ , who should have won a LHW title belt by then (probably by beating winner of tarver/woods) to become a legitimate 2-weight world champion.

Wow...If Calzaghe was willing to move up and down in weight like this 5-10 years ago, and was calling out all the big fighters, maybe he would've been a lot more respected...

It's funny that everybody was talking about how good Pavlik will be at 166... and now he's too small for SMW? Remember that Pavlik is bigger than Taylor. And not only Taylor, but Calzaghe and even taller than Kessler... So I don't think 168 would be a problem for him... the problem would be Calzaghe's great ability to take apart predictable, flawed fighters and Pavlik - even as a good fighter and boxer as he is - horribly predictable and has big troubles if he can't use his jab.

I can agree with this post. Kelly isn't small, he has a big frame for a middleweight and shouldn't have a problem making it to SMW. As you said though, Pavlik is predictable. That's really not a good thing if you're stepping in the ring with JC because it could be end up resembling Calzaghe-Lacy II.

****adoodledoo...Now I've heard it all comparing Pavlik to Lacy :patsch It would be a great fight...both have flaws and would match up well for a great fight...however I don't think it will happen....I can an envision a win for either fighter and I give both an equal chance....:good

I'm not really comparing Pavlik to Lacy! Listen man, I like Pavlik, I don't wish to take anything away from him but he his skills are lacking in some areas and he is predictable, and that's a terrible thing against Calzaghe. There is a chance that it could be a boxing lesson for Kelly. Maybe not as complete a boxing lesson as the one given to Lacy, but somehow I don't see Pavlik being able to do much at all in this fight (if it happens). If I'm wrong, I'll eat my own footwear, but I'm sticking with this opinion for now.

I had the very same argument with RealIzm yesterday with the very same points. He couln't give one counter-argument to that, so FRKO, don't even try to convince him... 'cuz you can't! :)

It's all good mate, I have warmed to RealIsm and I don't mind if I can't convince anyone of anything on ESB. It's not worth the effort!

    Cheers. :good
