OK, if that's true then we're all wrong, pretty much. However, 160 pounds = no way. He does not need to gain weight to make SMW. Again, last time I saw him mention his weight he said he was around 185.
Not recommending that Joe move up to heavyweight, but it's been done many times. Joe Choynski from the late 1800'sto early 1900's was fighting under 175 lbs, and KO'd future champ Jack Johnson in 3 rds. He weighed +/- 80 lbs. less than future champ Jefferies and fought to a draw. Billy Conn was about 175 Lbs. in the first Joe Louis fight. Michael Spinks made the jump from light heavy to beat Holmes @ Heavy. Being 35-36 years is a concenr. It would not be Joe's smartest move, but I'd watch.
Yeah you're right, it's crazy. Imagine someone like Jones - who started at 154 ffs - all the way up at HW, taking out an established conteneder at HW. ****ing impossible. Or a Welter like Mickey Walker stepping up and taking out the top contenders of his day. What kind of crazy ******* would belive that ****?
If he's walking about at 193 he could do 200 with some ease. How much speed would he lose? That's the question. I think he'd be weiging more than Louis did when he won the title. I'd pick Louis to defeat every fighter currently active.
Exactly my thoughts. HW is for large, natural heavy and strong fighters, which Calzague is not. Of course he could go for one lucrative fight, riding on his hype, just like Roy Jones did, against on of the smaller HWs, but I doubt it would net him more money than fighting Roy or the winner of Tarver/Woods, Dawson/Johnson. Anyway, if he steps in the ring with a true top HW like Wlad or Vitali he will get embarrassed and seriouslly injured.
