Guys who hit like bitches don't have 70+ percent KO ratios. The bottom line: Calzaghe shouldn't have any trouble
Here is how the brits have stacked up against America: 1) Revolutionary War, winner = America 2) War of 1812, winner = America 3) Numerous other outings, winner = America 4) Floyd vs. Fatton, winner = America B-Hop vs. Joe will be a continuation of this trend. Joe hits like a girl. It takes more than tats to be tough.
1 and 2, had major help from france and spain. Numerous other outings explain. I mean who found zakarwu and hussien location british SAS soldiers. Oh yeah rugby union never beat us at that. Oh Yeah Honeygan Vs Curry =British. Shouldn't you be at work.
I just hate Tarver. It was fun because B-Hop did bring the fight to "the Legend Killer" and he put on a defensive show, making Tarver look like a clown.
Its President's day over here...a holiday. Ya'll are cool. I dig the Brits. Joe should win. No harm no foul.
Calzaghe has power and hits hard enough. However, I doubt he has the kind of power that will discourage someone like Hopkins. Style-wise this is a bad matchup for JC. Hopkins will counter those flurries with accurate, economical counters rendering them ineffective for the most part. Hopkins, to Calzaghe's dismay, will be just as difficult to fight as Sakio Bika was. The difference is that Hopkins is an elite fighter. Bika is not. Kessler is excellent too but way fewer dimensions than Hopkins does. Hopkins has a herky jerky rhythm that is very difficult to attack or solve. At the same time he is a rough customer that is not averse to using dirty tactics when need be. I have no significant rooting interest here. Looking at this matchup objectively though it is impossible to envision Calzaghe looking good against Hopkins. Hopkins busts up the welshman enroute to a 12 round UD. No one complains about the verdict.
They do if they get help from the poor hometown offcials, and they fight mediocre oposition. Refrence: Calzaghe vs. Manfredo
You should see the Mitchell and Sheika stoppages too. Sheika was punching back and would probably have KO'd Calzaghe but the ref stepped in to stop it! Sheika didn't even go down just like the Manfredy fight.
Could be...I agree that B-Hop's style makes him tough to figure out...also that he has a tendancy to figure out other fighters pretty easily...and his rough house tactics cause an x-factor...but here is how I really see the fight: 1. Age/weight: The question is not "if" Hopkins will age, but "when". Going down from light heavy to catch weight to supper middle in the span of three fights could slow him down quite a bit. He didn't look as sharp against Winky as he did against Tarver. I expect the tred to continue. 2. The solution to Hopkins is easy to find but difficult to administer...punch output. You have to outwork the guy. The problem is that in trying to outwork him you end up getting gassed because so much of what you do is ineffective b/c of his great defensive skills. I think Joe can throw enough punches at Hopkins to win the early rounds fairly easy. I expect B-Hop to start late (as always) but his age/weight change will hinder his abilty to win the fight down the stretch. In the Kessler fight, Joe has proven that he can work all-night. I expect him to win by at least 3 rounds.
You make great points and they are all well taken. I don't think B-Hop will be weight depleted. This is a guy who does 5 miles of roadwork every morning whether he has a fight coming up or not. He is the youngest 43-year old around because he takes great care of himself and never let's his weight fluctuate drastically. It was once said that Roberto Duran lost and gained thousands of lbs. in his career. No such problems with Hopkins. Also, keep in mind Calzaghe's relatively limited opposition in his career. Hopkins, on the other hand, has made a career of facing hall of fame caliber opponents. I don't think anyone will confuse Kessler with a prime Roy Jones. Or Peter Manfredo with Antiono Tarver or Jeff Lacey with Winky Wright. And the lists goes on...
hopkins takes punches away and thats the truth..he can still move very well in there and he knows how to set up shots.it might be 10-15 a round but they all count..if good old joe cant touch hopkins hes ****ed..cuz joe at his age is not hopkins and will get tired fast..joe is a verry good fighter but not atg on the other hand hopkins is and there is a reason why look what he did to taver he used all his energy trying to hit hopkins..then hopkins took him to school..
