A close look at Jermain Taylor's career: IS HE A HALL OF FAMER?

Let's look at Jermain Taylor's career and especially at his world title fights. Some say he won none of the 2 Hopkins fights. I disagree but I don't think he really won the fights, it was more Hopkins' inactivity that made me think giving the decision to Taylor is okay.
So I can see how you might give those fights to Taylor somehow. Not really clear wins, but still wins in my opinion. His next title fight was against Winky Wright and the fight was ruled a draw and most pple think Wright won this fight.
Next Taylor fought Kassim Ouma and that was his ONLY "real" clear win during Taylor's "reign". But bottom line is Ouma never was a middleweight, he was more like a small light middleweight and was clearly outsized in this fight. Then Taylor fought Cory Spinks next in a fight which was close. The judges gave Taylor the win, but only by Split decision. And lets not forget Cory Spinks is a natural welterweight (!!!!!), not a middleweight.
Then Taylor ran into Kelly Pavlik and that was it.
What I am trying to say is that Taylor basically never won a single fight clearly except against a much smaller opponent (Kassim Ouma).
Later Taylor fought at super middleweight and got stopped by Carl Froch (who got later outclassed by both Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward in my opinion) and Arthur Abraham (who got outclassed and outsized in all his following fights).
So my question: what are your thoughts about Taylor's career and do you think he should be voted in the Hall of Fame someday? Vote on the poll

Funny thing is that I am 100 % sure he will be in the HOF someday, just cause he "beat" Bernard Hopkins, an ATG middleweight.
There are quite some pple who got into the HOF because of 1 big win. Barry McGuigan is one example. Jermain Taylor will be another example.....

I like him, but if he gets into the Hall of Fame, a HELL of alot of fighters also deserve some recognition.

It seems noadays its easy to get into the hall of fame, imo taylor was a hbo hype job who didnt really win his big fights and questionally was gifted the w's.

However he will most likely get in the hof due to his popularity with people. He will be remembered as the guy who beat hopkins twice, HBO's cash cow and his poor stamina levels. Nothing else.

It's very unlikely that Taylor will ever make the Hall of Fame. Too many decisive losses to good rather than great fighters (Pavlik, Froch, Abraham), and his two wins over Hopkins were highly contentious.

McGuigan is often used as the lowest common denominator for Hall of Fame induction, and personally I don't think he deserves to be inducted. However, he had one great win (Pedroza) and two very good ones (Taylor and LaPorte), which is more than Taylor. If you take out heavyweights who are a law unto themselves, I don't think there's anyone in the IBHOF less deserving than Taylor.

can you explain to me what is "hilarious" about this thread? And why would I be banned if I post a normal thread?
I totally agree. The boxing world knows HBO wanted to hype him to make money with a new "great" middleweight. I got nothing against Taylor, he seems like a nice guy. I am just convinced he will be in the HOF but I dont think he should be in the HOF. Winky Wright belongs 10 times as much into the HOF as Jermain Taylor.

I agree he probably will be inducted. Personally I am not convinced of his achievements but i do give him the respect of fighting guys like Wright and Pavlik, when others probably would have ducked these guys

Let's be honest, the Hall needs 5 modern inductee every year. A few boxers with weak resume has already went in.

With Taylor's resume right now, he won't, but if he wins a strap at 168, who knows.

well, this thread makes absolute sense to me because I am 100 % sure that
1.) Taylor doesnt deserve to be in the HOF
2.) Taylor WILL BE in the HOF some day.

Randy Turpin was a good fighter from Great Britain and he had a beautiful jab. But the only thing he really did on international level was beating Sugar Ray Robinson once. Other than that he didn't win the big fights. But he got into the HOF because of his one big win.
Barry McGuigan basically only had a big win over Eusebio Pedroza which got him into the HOF. Other than that he didnt do a lot. So, no way is Mc Guigan "3 times" the fighter Taylor is. They are both good fighters, but both shouldnt be in the Hall of Fame.
But I am 100 % sure that Taylor will be inducted some day, just like Randy Turpin and Barry McGuigan were inducted.

Let me see... NO. And neither does Kelly Pavlik. Jermaine should have never fought Hopkins. Had he just waited for Hopkins to retire or move up he would have been Middleweight Champion with like a 15 title defenses by now.

I disagree. So you mean the Hopkins fights took so much out of Taylor that he never was the same after those fights? And thats why he only had a handful disputed wins following the hopkins fights?
I felt he didnt take a lot of punishment against Hopkins simply because Hopkins wasnt even throwing a lot of punches.

He had too short a stay at the elite level

though head 2 head vs world champs

won-Joppy, Hopkins 2X, Ouma, Spinks, Lacy

    Lost- Pavlik 2X, Abraham, Froch

    Drew- Wright

biggest stick against him was short stay at the elite, never progressed or improved, and his middleweight reign left more to be desired

he may get in based on what he did achieve in a 3 or 4 yr period but i dont know

i also dont see him getting back to elite status

if he did id consider HOF
