In one gym I used to go to I use to sparred with quite a few good Euro level guys and some of them were weird like that, they have to feel like that are superior to everyone and have to show you it. I think it is a ego/confidence thing and personally I think its unecessary but my coach always said that we should suck it up as this is a boxing gym and not dance class so we shouldn't be expecting people to be nice to us. He did step in if it got too rough by which time was already a little late imo as you were already hurt.

Eh, personally I'm never rough at first with anybody unless I know them on a personal level. If I spar with somebody I don't really know, or for the first time, I pretty much just use my lead hand, and shoot a few straights in. . .

But I'm not really a "top dog" in my gym either. . .

Probably a bit of an A-hole move. . . At least if it was immediately off the break. . Maybe after a round or two, and you guys gradually work into going all out. . .

He was getting your ass ready. George Foreman used to get busted up by Sonny Liston, he said he was better for it.

Dick move. Sparring aint about knocking peoples heads of, its experience. If I spar with a lesser opponent I try to work on my technique. Going all out spells self insecurity and ***gotry

Nah, you don't pay good money to go to a boxing gym and play paddy cakes. Hard sparring preps you for the real deal. I bet that toughened you up a bit.

    It goes both ways.

    Depends what is appropriate.

In general though, sparring mates should never be trying to stop their peer.

You need a strong trainer at the gym, it is about learning and getting ready for fights.

U obv never really trained cuz no gym goes 100 percent sparing all the time I compted ammy boxing kickboxing most time u work on strategy and technique in sparicmg now u do have days u go full out but going 100 percent sparing every time u risk injury 80 percent is good mixed with days going full out
