Britain have 7 boxers, an they are all in with a medal shout. I think Selby is better than Raushee :conf For those looking for the british amateur scene, follow Boxing News' John Dennen on Twitter
Thank you!!! I don't know (want to know) how Twitter works, maybe you can keep me up to speed via this thread how things are going. I'm trying to get a sticky here.:good
also Mattdonnellan who posts mostly on the Irishboxing thread and euro forum is extremely clued up on the amateur game.
As far as I've seen, Vasyl Lomachenko is by far the best pro prospect in the amateurs at the moment. He's the kind of guy who could be winning titles 10 or so fights into his pro career, if he's moved right.
Yup, he's almost as complete as Kostya was when he came out of the Amatuers. The Ukranian team in general are worth watching, if I remember right they completely dominated the last world games for Boxing. Oleksandr Usyk is a Heavyweight who doesn't enjoy the exposure that Lomachenko does, but I expect him to win gold. He has a gold medal from the world Amatuer Championships. Other Ukrainian fighters worth a look include Middleweight Evhen Khytrov (who burst onto the scene in the past few years and won Gold at the 2011 World Amateur championships), Welterweight Taras Shelestyuk (who also won Gold at the 2011 World Amateur championships) and Denys Berinchyk (who won Silver at Light Welterweight). There's a few more who aren't from the Ukraine... China is on the rise and pretty much my dark horse for the Olympics, wish I'd tried for a ticket. Star of China's team is Light Flyweight Zou Shiming, he's won 3 world gold meals. His main rival is a Mongolian dude who's name I can't remember. Begins with a P I think :huh Britains Anthony Joshua has the potential for gold, but he'll need to be at his very best. America's olympic hopes are slim, they don't have an Ali, or a SRL, or a Roy Jones, Andre Ward was in that category too, but I don't see anyone like that on their horizon.
