I rank their food higher than their fighters. Bistec, white rice, black beans, beef empanadas, those fried platanos.....now that's the best

I've been trying to watch as many Cuban boxers as I can recently. To try to get a fell for what they bring to the table. I noticed some simarites between Jose Naples and Kid Gavlin
They got god skills. They have flaws though
    1. They send men to fight boys in the Olympics. Sure it is with in the rules, but when you have a man at the peak of his game beating a boy still devloping his game. It's not that great of an acomplishment.
    2. They tend to move too rythmicly. Most move by bouncing around rather than gliding around. People are cretures of habit. It's harder to hide the patterns when bouncing than it is to when gliding. This problem dated back before The commies took over.
    3. They have the same game plan. Stay back and pounce. It's a pretty effective stragity as a whole, but when you know what's comming, you gain an advantage.

Thjis brings me to my point. There is no doubt that Cubans are highly skilled and well tought boxers. They always have been. However if their oppoent has a high boxing IQ, studies film, or just isn't inteemaded by the Cuban repuation. They lose a lot of their advantages.

Vitali stopped Solis in the first round with a right hook to the temple!!!!!!!

Vitali beat the crap out of Gomez, stopped him. Gomez had over 300 amateur fights for Cuba. Gomez is 6 feet 4 inches tall..............

Gomes was no savon nor teofilo stevenson nor Roberto Balado.. those were great cuban HWs,

solis, gomez, jorge luis gonzalez werent in the class of the ones above...

i agree cubans are great counter punchers because they are trained from the beginning to be counter punchers.. that's how they excel in the amateurs by fighting like a fencer, hit and move hit and move.. the problem with that is that they spend so m uch time in the amateurs when they get to the pros they can adapt or change their style.. is hard to just be a counter puncher for 12rds just as diobelys hurtado one of the best doing it but ran out of gas vs whitaker

    :hat

I enjoy watching highly skilled fighters and as a group the Cubanos deliver more in that dept than any other nationality. It's good to see latinos representing, but I won't jump to conclusions as to who have the best fighters not until everything is said and done. When you have somebody in the top 5 p4p you can brag all you want. Until then "Paque peinarle tanto ha la burra?"

This one irritates me quite a bit.
Do you know that the Cuban boxing team is younger than the American this year? And if we look at the great Cuban amateurs I can only think of Kindelan that didn't get his break trough at a young age. Cubans are great amateur boxers, period. This was true before the computer scoring came and it will be true after AIBA changes the rules again after the Olympics.

No, they don't send men to fight kids to the Olympics, they win their first medal in their teens and because they are so young at that time they comeback to the Island, once they hit their twenties is when they beginning to think defection...
