How would you rate Frank Bruno? And should he have been more ferocious in the ring?

More Adamek out on his feet from a jab action, this one is less of a rangefinder and more of a slight paw.

strong guy and maybe a little too muscular for boxing. Made his rather stiff, but he had a great left hook and right hand. His chin was not the best because he was so straight up when he was hit he was hit clean.

    Wlad's more refined than Frank.

But he'd be a one of the division's elites today.

"Ferocious" should have been his nickname.

He was good, but not that good. He doesn't have Wlad's power or as good of a jab. He isn't nearly as good as a boxer either. He probably has a better chin, but that is about it. Bruno vs Arreola would be a 50/50 and a hell of a fight.

Yep. And some others, especially early in his career. But his matchmaking was definately selective and not risk taking. There were some 50-50 type bouts I would have liked to have seen him in. And, take on those softer guys on the road so he would not be such a notorius hometown fighter. Specifically, take on a 1986 Mike Spinks or Tony Tubbs or a Berbick even. Risky, but winnable fights he would have to be at his best to win. But a loss is possible in those fights.

I always wanted to see that Mason fight happen and am still surprised it never did take place. Or a little later on, Herbie Hide. Hide had the handspeed to come right over the top of those arms--if Frank gets tagged does he freeze up again or can he connect on Herbie?

To me, frank was always a guy taking on the wrong opponent. Pretty much his whole career and when he was matched soft, I wanted to see him matched tougher. When he was matched tough, I did not like the opponent. And I never ever thought he had the defense to deal with a Tyson and that kind of attack and speed. Same goes for Witherspoon and Smith because they were big guys themselves and what they brought to the table did not suit Frank well.

He has a good jab, carried too much mass for his own good though. Im not sure the weight lifting benefited him at all, I think he would have been better off losing some upper body mass would would have left him with a little more snap and better able to land fluid combos instead of 1s and 2s.

Still better than any heavyweight, or boxer at all, to emanate from Poland.
