i don't think anyone will beat floyd until he 'does a roy jones' - and history says that he will stay that step too far.

both are brilliant fighters but if anyone thinks floyd won't let his ego go beyond his expiry date i'll take bets now.

If Joe Calzaghe could drain to 154 perhaps. That kind of draining would take it out of anyone, but with such size he'd flatten Mayweather anyway. It wouldn't be healthy but Calzaghe wins.

Mayweather is a great boxer/fighter, the thing is, if he fights Cotto in 2009, what more there is for him to prove or will there be any reason for him to keep fighting at all. What he has done over the years with his career is very amazing indeed.
The only guy who may give him a great fight will be Cotto in my opinion, after that fight happens who he should fight next? De la Hoya 3, Hatton 2, Forrest, Spinks, Mosley, Margarito, nah! none of them. He already is in wrestling so who knows what the Pretty Boy will do after boxing.

I think Cotto is the last fight for him out there. We can argue all day long that there are others out there, but lets be honest: Cotto is THE MAN for PBF to fight. His puncher/boxer style of applying EFFECTIVE aggression (*keyword effective, Ricky Hatton) can surely give Mayweather trouble. I don't have a pick for this fight yet, as it is a very tough choice imo. The only thing I am 99.9% sure of is that this fight goes the distance.

it's also a 'hole' in floyd's resume that he has never fought a world class welter in his prime, and if we're going to line him up against the all-time greats then he needs to take this fight IMO.
it would be frustrating if floyd didn't take this fight for that reason.

Exactly. Cotto's the closest but no where near skilled enough right now to beat FMJ

Nobody near Mayweather's weight, in boxing today could cause him a problem, excpet Cotto, but I still think PBF would KO Cotto within 8 rounds, but would get hurt by Cotto a few times.

Agreed. If he really wants to be considered on of THE all time greatest, and be considered among the top ten, then Cotto is his only fight left to prove it imo.

I'm sure for certain. i think Forest would jab Floyd and try to setp up right hands like he did against Mosley. Cotto is just getting better and better in ever fight. Cotto could try to land as many body shots as he can to slow down PBf. Mosley dont mind taking punchs to kcock people out. Mosley could try to make it a war of wills. As i said before these are what ifs.

Spinks also could hang with floyd. Hell Spinks beat Taylor. I know he did not get the nodd but still he outboxed a fighter two divisions bigger than him and made him miss all night. Spinks is very good fighter with limited exposure and thats why the fight willnot happen.
