Wlad Klitschko on up coming Tony Thompson fight

Yes Thompson deserved his shot after beating Krasniqi.. 5 years ago! Who has he beaten now? Nobody. He's 5 years older now and has shown us *NOTHING* that gives this rematch any intrigue.

From all we know an older, slower and less dangerous version of Thompson will get in the ring with a primer than prime version of Wlad. Hard to get excited about this fight :think

The last few IBF mandatory fights at heavyweight=Brock, Rahman, Peter, and now Thompson.

It's not entirely the IBF's fault. Povetkin sat on the mandatory spot and ducked the fight. Then Chambers dropped out of a final eliminator with Thompson.

Yet considering that Wlad doesn't seem to want to fight Thompson and there's little interest, why not have Thompson just fight someone for his shot? As in....the top IBF contender who would take the fight?

The process seems overly determined by powerful American promoters. If the IBF can't produce worthy mandatories perhaps Wladimir should vacate the belt.

That said, Thompson is probably about as good an opponent as anyone. But most likely not good enough to make it competitive.

 

So did fellow 6 footers "Bronze Age" Brewster in 04 and "Caveman" Peter in 05, they did ok for "midgets". :yep

OK Caveman Peter lost, But he did way better then Tiger Thompson did. :deal

Taller does NOT equal better. :nono Especially when your slow as a sloth on valium. :deal

Old Man Thompson is tall, but so frigging slow, Wladdy will box circles around him in bullet time.

Mormeck was ****, because his best weight was Lightheavyweight where he spent most of his career, he was fast as **** back in those youthful days, And he was not yet a Glass Jawed 40 year Old Man who charges forward chin-first And needs to be teh faster man to win because of his lack of height @cruiser And heavy. Prime Mormeck had canny good headmovement And handspeed y'know. Wald fought a slow old plodder version.

Wlad fighting a guy he has already beaten a better version of.

No. There's no one he can really fight, which is a shame.

I didn't say it was Wlad's fault. And thanks, but I'm more than aware of the concept of mandatories. I'm merely giving my opinion on this as a fight in its own right. Regardless of the fighters involved, it's ultimately the dominant champ fighting against an older version of a guy he handled easy enough the first time round.

In my opinion that's a **** and unappealing fight. Some people have come in and said they think it's a good fight, others have said its a poor fight. That's what a boxing forum is for.

This isnt an easy fight much like the first fight wasnt an easy fight

Sure Wlad won almost every round the first time and got a nice KO

but...

Thompson hit him a lot, not really solid hard blows but he did cut Wlad with a punch, and seemed to mark him up a little

Thompson is a tall awkward southpaw who was able to disrupt Wlads rhythm and make it tricky for 7 or 8 rounds

now this time around Wlad who always finishes faster in rematches will probably be used to Thompsons awkwardness this time around and thru use of tape and good sparring should negate the difficulty

however Thompson has room to improve as well, less nerves, already fought in Germany under the lights vs Wlad, he knows what its all about, if he were to sit on his shots more and negate the jab again he will do better, he was just too easy to hit with the right

I see an easier Wlad win with the possibility of Thompson getting in some work

 

Old Thompson is now too slow to make this remotely competitive in the slightest.

I saw his fight with Maurice Harris a year ago, & he was looking dreadfully sluggish. :verysad

 

I'd say Thompson has at least a 50/50 with anyone in the top 10 besides Wlad or Vitali.

Actually, I think Fury, Helenius, Dimi, Chambers and Haye all stand a good chance of losing to Thompson.
