Messer what would you consider to be Chauncy's best win? I've seen a few of his fights and he's deceptively quick for someone his size. I think he lacks the power of a natural Hw but makes up for it with his work rate.
Yeah, in Chauncy's defense, the only guys on the WBO rankings over the past year that would have taken a Chauncy fight are Zumbano Love and Victor Bisbal. Did Chauncy make any attempt to get Bisbal into the ring? Looking at his record, he's mixed in much better company than Zumbano Love and has a decent amateur pedigree and KO percentage.
I think Moyoyo Mensah was a good win. He is tough and the much tougher Mensah than the one that beat up Katsidis. I also think stopping Tauasa in the 4th round brutally in China was a pretty good win. And then the Calloway shut out was decent. Chauncy's opponents have been improving even with the guys he really wants to fight not signing up. Ohkello Peter became Tauasa after some travel crap. Monte Barrett turned down the Mensah fight as 40 grand was not enough to get him. Oliver McCall became Bert Cooper too. As for Brisbal....he has a better record but I don't think he was as likely to sign up. I'm sure he'd like to have a fight like that in PR and not travel to China. And in the back of their minds they are probably thinking about a huge domestic clash with Ortiz. I say duck a lot and much HW talk is based around ducking talk. But, when it comes down to it, this is a business. Most guys could get better fights than they do, including Chauncy. But the key in this business is to buy low and sell high. You have to get a good deal for yourself to take the bigger fights. Take Ibragimov....yeah he is a decent fight, but his stock is pure **** right now. A UD win is not that impressive. A competitive win is not impressive. And he doesn't sell very well. If he was hot it would be different. Many other guys are hot though. On winning streaks, with ability to sell tickets. And let's be honest, Chauncy is not a ticket power broker himself yet. His best bet is to face a guy like Mitchell, Fury, Helenius, or some of the others who are hot and sell places out.
What ever happened to the Tua fight? If i'm not mistaken there were serious negotiations b/t the two camps. I agree with the Ibragimov fight not making sense, maybe if he strung together a few decent wins he would be a quality opponent for Chauncy. Btw what do you think of a potential fight b/t Denis Boytsov and Welliver?
Excellent fight for Welliver. Boytsov is hot and highly ranked with big noise in Europe. Chauncy would be in position to be a top 1 or 2 WBO HW with that win and also position himself for the marketability to take a Povetkin match for that WBA regular strap. I think Welliver wins a UD over Boytsov unless he gets ripped off by the judges. Boytsov can't get rid of him and Chauncy should be able to throw and land many more punches. It would be a very good eliminator type fight though.
But dont downplay Ibragimov, his stock aint great but his last fight was an HBO fight. His resume is decent, far better than Chauncys. He would be a better name than anyone else on Chauncys resume BY FAR. If Chauncy cant get a Mitchell, Fury, or Helenius fight, which he wont btw, then why not take on Ibragimov?
I question if Mitchell, Fury, or Helenius would even regard Chauncy as a worthwhile opponent unless Chauncy first beats a fighter on Ibragimov's level. I think this is why Golden Boy is going public about making Grant, and not Chuancy, Mitchell's next HBO opponent. Chauncy's winning fights, but he has yet to make his mark against a single, credible "B" level opponent. Remember: the promoters and TV people need to sell these fights to the public. That's why some kind of name recognition (as achieved by beating credible foes) is of the essence.
If Chauncy gets hit to the body and the head, then his prospects against Mitchell are grim. Chauncy would have to shut Mitchell down with an all out attack, and right now, we're still don't know if he can pull that off against a fighter of Seth's calibre. I'm very critical of Mitchell, as many here have pointed out. But I will be the first to say that if Seth is allowed to unload his bombs, then he will destroy his foe. Dude has massive strength.
Not exactly true. Ibragimov now has a reputation as a very tough gatekeeper. This is clear from the way that major boxing reporters speak of him now, even after the Mitchell disaster. If Chauncy beat Ibragimov in any way -- even by a razor thin, hard fought decision -- that would enhance Chauncy's stock. It would put Chauncy on the edge of legitimacy, and make him viable as an opponent for one of these other big names you talk about.
Tua retired. As for Boytsov, remember that Universum matches him under extremely controlled circumstances only. This means Boytsov only fights in Germany, under conditions dictacted by Universum. I don't think Chauncy's people would take him there for this kind of treatment. That would be poor managment...would make no sense. The only two ways Boytsov vs Chauncy happens are: 1. Universum wants Chauncy so badly that they offer a purse which is too high for Chauncy to reject (I doubt Universum would do that) 2. Chauncy and Boytsov are the top contenders, and they fight an eliminator, with a purse bid happening first. But for this to happen, I think Chuancy would have to first round out his resume with one or two wins over credible "B" opponents. Again, the issue here is selling Chauncy to the TV watching public (this time in Europe). Universum probably couldn't get its TV backers to pay Chauncy big money unless the TV people are confident that the average European fan knows who Chauncy is.
You wouldn't by any chance manage Ibragimov would ya? lol First off, I have never said Ibragimov was too tall. My next opponent is 6'6". I like fighting taller fighters. More to hit. :bbb Ibragimov is a tough fighter, and if he wants the fight, I suggest he go out, find the proper funds to make the fight happen. If he wants to fight me, it should not be me to go out and scout promoters to make the fight. We did receive a call from Eric Gomez yesterday about me and Seth Mitchell. They have to find out the next date he will fight. Could be June or September. They'd like to do a WBO eliminator with us. I've heard the Michael Grant rumors, so we shall see who is chosen.
