87-0 is 87-0 no matter how many cab drivers and Subsitute teachers are on that list. If it was easy to fight and win 87 boxing matches with out a loss, more fighters would do it. I mean that's 87 chances to not see a punch, get a cut, or break a hand.
I think both streaks have advantages over the other, Mayweather has slightly more elite level fighters on his list, but JCC has many more "good" fighters on his list, as well as being twice as long itself. I think if JCC clearly defeated Sweet Pea (I had Pernell winning it 8-3-1) then he might get the nod at this point, but since I believe that was a loss I really dont know which is more impressive if Floyd retired tomorrow. I guess Floyd has the chance to extend his enough to surpass JCC's but as of now I can't say Floyds is better.
Alvarez is undefeated too, isn't he, and what about that Latino hw, he's undefeated AND with more ko's than Fiddy's girlfrie nd.
Man, the mayweathers sure know boxing. They have the whole world fooled. Look at it this way, activity alone makes fighters diminish. Not only is it a fight, but training camp and sparring in between. The mayweathers know this. I admit, they are genius, but lets not take away from past fighter's accomplishments. There is no deying that if mayweathers record would be a couple of dozen fighters deeper (no matter the caliber) he would be a different fighter now and not for the good. His body would start to give up and he would have lost a step or two. That happens to all atheletes in any sport
Margarito, Cintron. Martinez,Cotto, Tszyu,Williams. 2006 until now. Cotto is not the fighter he was. He has been in many tough fights and was stopped in them. Floyd avoided anyone who was prime and hungry. He waited until names got old to fight them. It is obvious. He is doing the same with Manny. I believe he wants to fight him but he wants a Manny who has no chance of beating him. He is waiting until he sees Manny look tired and beatable. Leonard did that when Hearns had a tough fight with Kinchen, and that almost backfired on him when Ray fought Tommy in the rematch in 1989 and Tommy had more left them people thought.. The judges scored that fight wrong.
I think Floyd was offered £12m to fight Baldomir for the title, at the same time he was offered £8m to fight Margarito for no title. So that move makes sense, he won and became the lineal WW champion. I can't say about Cintron, I don't know to be honest. With Cotto, it's said that Floyd offered to fight him in 2008 and Arum and Cotto's camp refused, saying that Miguel wasn't ready to fight Floyd yet. I think Floyd is fighting a strong version of Cotto, he's more rounded as a fighter than he was in his younger days, he was too reliant on his left hook, which wouldn't have troubled Floyd. He called out Tszyu quite a few times, I remember him calling out Tszyu before and after Gatti again. Who then went on to fight Hatton, lose and retire. I agree with you on Paul Williams, he would have been a nightmare for Floyd to face. That was a smart move to avoid Williams, who was a legit threat at 147. As for Martinez, I think Sergio is just too big for Floyd, this again is a smart move. I think Sergio has a genuine shot at beating Floyd. Whether he's doing the same with Manny is hard to say. Personally, I don't see why Manny couldn't agree to the drug testing in 2009? Mayweather was calling him out again even before the Marquez fight. Perhaps he was hesitant to face Manny. When do you think Tommy's prime ended? With Sugar Ray, before his first retirement he did fight some of the best fighters of all time, beating Hagler cemented his legacy, so I think he was to a degree entitled to cherry pick. Tommy certainly beat him in the rematch, with the two knockdowns it's shocking that the judges didn't give him the win he deserved. Tommy still had plenty of fight left in him, beating Virgil Hill 3 years later was an amazing achievement.
Same could be done with Chavez....Chavez fought Hector Camacho years after they should have, both were always at or the near the same weight Chavez and Camacho always one of his best contemporaries...started 38-0 and at 130 was very exciting and showed great promise even after the Rosario fight, he still was p4p one of the best until the early 90's when they finally fought Whitaker was always there,Bazooka Limon was shot to hell, etc...their resumes are similar they got the the greats or near greats to late...at least mayweather defeated his best opponents cant say the same for Chavez not fair to either guy to **** on who they didnt fight, no one in history has fought ever good fighter in their era:deal
good post:deal people forget he called out Tszyu after beating Sosa and Ndo, Cotto's camp said he wasnt ready, Mosley had a tooth ache and needed rest, Hatton's on father said he wasnt ready for Floyd...people tend to forget things when it is convenient....I tend to think Hearns prime ended around 1987....he already cemented himself as an all-time great when he and Leonard has the rematch they both were a couple years past it....already had beaten Duran, Benitez, won a lightheavyweight belt....the signs were showing around the Roldan fight
chavez didn't fight a recognizable name in his first 40 something fights....much the way his son is doing it now. floyd's first half of his career was an amazing run and he won a championship very early. he was fighter of the year in '98 and again in '08. not an easy thing to do in boxing.
Thanks The Mosley toothache excuse is another one, Mosley put off facing Floyd for a long time. Floyd has taken a lot of criticism, much of it justified, but much of it has been unfair. I guess that comes with the territory. That's a good point about the Roldan fight, Tommy's power and experience (knowing how to hold on) saw him through that night. Roldan was relentless! If Tommy wasn't able to hurt with him with that right hand, he may well have gotten stopped himself. He set up those right hands with ripping left hooks to the body, but Roldan just kept on coming forward, and staggered Tommy more than once. He got lazy against Barkley, who he never should have lost to.
