I know he is in shape since he was in Canelo's camp but doesnt it seem a little weird that a guy so close to the Mayweathers is fighting Vargas? If Forbes beats Vargas then that really hurts his future marketability.

How is Forbes close to Mayweather?

    Serious question, actually wondering.

I think that both Mosely and Forbes are already paid for to lose.

Why would somebody pay off Vargas's opponents. Nobody has even seen what he's made of yet. His last fight showed that he's has heart and will keep fighting when given a tough opponent. Now lets see if he has the skills to maybe achieve the next level if that moment should ever come. Forbes ain't no world beater but he's a good opponent for Vargas for where he is at in his boxing career right now.

Anything can happen in the boxing ring. That is, anybody could unexpectedly beat Vargas at any time.

Forbes has some mainstream name recognition from his time on Contender and being a tune-up for DLH, so he's a good name to have on your resume.

If Vargas loses to him, Mayweather Promotions is no worse off because that just means he would have gone bust on them sooner or later anyway.

Obviously with them knowing Stevie so well they wouldn't have put Jessie in there if they were too worried about the possibility of an upset.

Forbes will make it competitive and test Vargas, but probably won't flunk him out. (and not because he's being paid not to)
