Cotto proved that even after 2 career ending type beatings that he can still hang with the big dogs. Only question is, where does he go now? I think it's pretty simple. Stay at 154, cause we all know he ain't getting down to 147, and fight the K9-Spinks winner. He would beat either. One thing I am 100% sure of. If Cotto wants to fight on and keep a belt for a longer period of time, I expect him to not be getting into the ring with anyone who poses a tough threat at 154. Like an Alvarez for example. I also don't see him staying around too long. He will retire when it's time. He has the money, the family, and the smarts to not overstay his welcome. Thoughts?
this payday set him up for an end game type scenario...i see maybe two or three more good money fights before he hangs them up
Could fight Alvarez, Magaritto for a third time, Manny again, the winner of Khan - Peterson etc His stock and rep went up last night IMO, he is a warrior and entertaining to watch as always.
LOL ARE YOU KIDDING? I love Cotto, but Lara would school him. The point of this thread was too mention fighters Cotto can fight, win, and not lose so he can avoid retiring. He ain't getting put in with Lara. If he did, mad props to Cotto. I think he stays away from Lara too.
Well Cotto has a few options, he could fight one of the other belt holders to try to get a belt to use as leverage when talking a second fight with Mayweather or a fight with Pacquiao again or perhaps a fight with Berto/Ortiz 2 winner. Man has some options. His best plan of action would probably take on a younger champion that can box well and beat him then try to drum up a second Mayweather fight.
High risk, no reward. Though that would be interesting seeing his trainer come up with a strategy against a guy he probably has worked extensively with.
