I really don't understand what fight some people were watching last night. I was cheering for Cotto but Floyd dominated.
All Floyd has to do is fight Pac the way he fought round 12 last night and it will be a shut out. Manny can't cut off the ring and would walk into kill shots all night. Floyd showed last night that he can still give movement.
Judging from Manny's last fight and Floyd's WAR with Cotto, I'd still have to say that Floyd has the Pacman's number all day long. Manny Pacquiao wouldn't even fight the Miguel Cotto we saw last night. Manny saw what Cotto did to Margarito and decided that it was best to go after a jr. welter instead of a jr. middle. Anyway, Miguel Cotto roughed Floyd up in there. He pushed his weight around and Mr. Pacquiao doesn't weigh enough to bully Floyd around the ring. Most of the fighters who gave Floyd a good run in the ring, are ones who bullied Floyd around and disrupted his beautiful boxing rhythm. Manny looked less than impressive in his last fight and he better be cautious with his upcoming fight because he can certainly get outboxed. Someone who can really, really box is the cryptonite to Pacquiao's Superman. Last night's fight changed the landscape and I think Floyd paid his karma debt to Larry Merchant, his ex-lady, and to all of the paying boxing fans whom he rubbed the wrong way. I think a lot of the detractors will begin to warm up to Floyd. He humbled himself last night without taking a loss. What did people expect when Floyd went to where Cotto was comfortable? Especially after he regained his confidence after taking his revenge on Margarito. Cotto's not done by a long shot and I'd like to see him slug it out with Canelo.
He wasn't shot. He was coming off of a very tough loss and when the situation with the gloves gets factored in, it becomes a ghost in Cotto's brain. Cotto wasn't shot but his mental toughness was what was in question. He bounced back and made it to where he needed to be. When you see the fights where Cotto went to war, you don't see his face looking the way it looked after he fought Pacquiao and Margarito. His face was mangled and it's no surprise how one fighter got nabbed trying to load his gloves, while the other is under a cloud of suspicion for PED usage. Taking 2 pounds from a fighter means a lot more than people think. If it doesn't mean anything, then why didn't Pacquiao allow Cotto to weigh 3 pounds over 147? I was never one to say that Cotto was shot. Cotto was having a tough time at that point in his career after the loss. His mentality was what was i question. How did the loss affect his confidence. He had to defeat the ghost in his mind in order to regain his confidence. Pacquiao and his team went after him at the right time. When it's not the right time for them to exploit someone, they will wait it out. Last night's fight will entice them to want to come to the table. If they were waiting for Floyd to slow down, it seems that they may have seen what they needed to see. Pacquiao needs to do what Cotto did and went off on his own. He either needs to do that or go super ham on Bob Arum because it's Bob that's making Manny look like he's a duck right now. Manny and Floyd were supposed to be in there last night. Manny said he was wit' it but Bob blocked it. Floyd is going to make Bob Arum the villian. I know like everyone knows that it should've been Pacquiao in there last night but it's all good.
If that's so, then Margarito's loss to Mosley contributed to him being distracted due to the illegal wrapping scandal as opposed to him not punching hard because he got no illegal wraps in his hand?
Lemme put it this way, if the fight is close going down the stretch...Pac has the gastank to finish the job. Cotto was in it for about 2/3 of the fight. Floyd's best chance against Packy is to play the distance game...that is if he has the legs to keep it up for 12 rounds. Even at that, it's not a given. Floyd's not Marquez type counterpuncher, and potshots don't win you rounds against Pacquiao. But if he tries to stand there and trade like he did Cotto....I'm even more certain now he loses. Pac is a waaay more dynamic puncher and a waaaay more dynamic pressure fighter than Cotto. He will put a world of hurt on anyone who stays in his range. If Floyd can't get out of the way, watch out...it'll get one-sided real quick. Floyd's also seems real vulnerable to a left. Pac throws his lead left, sneak left, manila ice with a lot more snap and speed than anything Cotto throws....Jeez, I can picture that **** now....the look on Floyd's face when he's on the receiving end of a pac laser left.. Pressure obviously bothers Floyd. Floyd needs time and space to operate effectively. Crowd him, and he gets flustered and sloppy. I don't buy into to this notion that Floyd "chose" to fight. Cotto's pressure, determination and workrate clearly made Floyd uncomfortable. Castillo was the first to show this, and now Cotto....well, we all know who the best pressure fighter out there there is. Now that he's older and slower, this is becoming more and more obvious. If Pac himself hasn't slowed down dramatically, this should make Pac salivate and chomping at the bit. ...however, at the end of the day Floyd still got a good chance of beating Pac based solely on his reach and size and boxing prowess, but one can understand Floyd's hesitancy in signing on. Pac brings a whole lot to the table and can do with even more success with what Cotto and Castillo did right against Floyd.
Yes. Not only is Floyd on another level to Pac, his style would be a nightmare for him. Pretty much the only people who think Pac have a chance are spastic Asians who only started following when Pac made it big and will stop watching when he retires.
The list of excuses why Pac has dominated where Floyd has struggled or had close fight with common opponents is LONG. But the truth is both Pac and Floyd are great fighters with contrasting styles that will be problematic to the other.... I have to see how the fight goes with TIM before I make a final prediction on Pac vs Floyd... if Pac dominates then I might lean towards Pac.... If TIM gives Manny a tough fight like Miguel gave Floyd..... I would probably lean slightly towards Floyd. Toss up right now.
True, but both TIM and Cotto have certain qualities that have caused both Pac and Floyd problems in their tougher fights.... Not to mention that you're only as good as your last fight so the problems and "holes" exposed in their last fights is what we remember and what we based our predictions on their next fight on. I honestly expected Floyd to dominate Cotto and Pac to dominate JMM.
That's true but I think people are delusional if they think Mayweathers performance was anywhere near as poor as PAC against JMM. Floyd went to war last night and it was exciting for fans..he could choose to box and move next fight he has that much variety...where as Manny is pretty one dimensional.
