Guys any differences in their performances pretty much comes down to basic styles match-ups. Comparing performances tells us little about who the better fighter is. Cotto and Hatton had more success against floyd. Why? Because they're both come forward pressure fighters and Floyd is a boxer. They both got ****ed up against Manny. Why? Because they are come forward pressure fighters and Manny is a puncher. Coming forward and pressuring the boxer takes away his movement and overwhelms his defences. Thus the style match-up favours the pressure fight. Coming forward and pressuring a puncher, who has two fisted knockout power......gets you knocked the **** out. Which is exactly what happened when Cotto and Hatton fought Manny. Marquez is a counter punching boxer who faced a bigger faster counter punching boxer when he faced floyd. They have similar styles and there is structural deficiencies that are too hard for him to overcome. So he got badly out classed. Manny like all power punchers loads up on his punches and leaves openings to counter. Marquez being a boxer counter puncher is pretty much the perfect guy to take advantage of the openings Pac gives him. So as a result Marquez does way better against Manny then he does against Floyd. Mosley is a puncher. Like He needs to set his feet to throw a big punch. He landed one against floyd but the rest of the time when he'd plant his feet floyd would hit him with a jab and/or move away. As a result Mosely basically looked completely clueless the entire fight. Mosely and pac are both punchers. Mosely actually had more success against pac then he did against floyd because in that fight mosely tried to box. People can try all the revisionist history they want but everyone remembers how Mosley circled away from Pac and nullified his left hand for pretty much the entire fight. If you chose you'll remember the meriod of excusses regarding Manny's in ability to finish mosely off (i.e. leg cramps) and the anxiety that existed was coming from Manny's Camp after the fight when they realised he really hadn't come as far towards being a refined boxer as most people thought he had become. Mosely might not have won very many roudns against either fighter but against pac he could at least say he had success doing something. Against Floyd, with the acception of one right hand and a follow up left hook he was pretty much clueless for the entire fight. The DLH fight we won't talk about because in that fight, the age and weight actually did make a difference. In all the other fights though the age, weight and record preceeding their respective fights comes secondary to the style match-ups. Without knowing any of that other stuff you can basically predict who will do better against whom. Also one final note about the the pressure fighter style. It is the style that gives floyd the most trouble. And many people seem to like PAc's chances against floyd because they think pac's forward movement and punch volume makes him a pressure fighter. He's not. Pac lacks the abilty to cut off the ring affectively. He can still learn how to do that. But this point in the game he's shown himself to be amazingly ineffective at cutting the ring down. Until he learns how to do that I have to view a match-up between him and Floyd with the basic Power puncher vs Boxer construct. This is a styles match-up that favours floyd.
Pacquiao: ODLH - Zombie on fight night, drained, and old. coming off losses. a catchweight victory against an old man. Hatton - Floyd sent him into depression, took his 0', and he was a coke head. Floyd ruined him. Cotto - Drained @ 145 catchweight and had no confidence after the margarito and tough fight with Clottey. coming off losses and was conteplating retirement before the fight. Mosley - his fight with Floyd showed us that he was done, and was coming off of a draw a bum, sergio mora. its clear he was shot. and Pacquiao DUCKED when he was seen as a threat and Floyd had to be the one to step up. Marquez - after seeing how badly Marquez Looked above lightweight against floyd, team pac decided to drag him up AGAIN and fight him. on top of that he was 38. and Pacman lost the fight in most peoples eyes :rofl Floyd: ODLH - This content is protected . fought him @ 154, a weight hes never been to. fought with pillow gloves and Oscar was determined to win that fight. Hatton - This content is protected . an undefeated hungry fighter with something to prove. Floyd took his 0' and was the first to KO him. Marquez - This content is protected nothing really special about this win because of the weight, but it is pretty damn special knowing that Pacquiao lost to him @ the same weight. he basicly wanted to prove a point that he can easily school pacs biggest rival. and he did. Mosley - This content is protected . coming off of a HUGE victory over Margarito after the performance of his life. every one ducked him after that but it was FLOYD who took that fight afterwards. people that claim Mosley was finished are fulla **** cuz WE didnt know which mosley would show up, all we remember is him brutilizing Margarito. Cotto - This content is protected . fought him @ his comfortable weight of 154 lbs. a Cotto with Confidence and rejuvinated love for the sport again after getting his revenge from Margarito. also coming off of 3 consecutive TKO victories. Floyd wins by a mile. #TheMoneyTeam
True! But I think (again this is my oponion only) that Mosley was done way before Manny and Floyd. I think he got past Margarito because Margarito had just been caught cheating and his focus MIGHT not have been there in that fight. That is why I think Mosley looked rejuvenated in that fight and looked like **** against Manny, Floyd and now Canelo. Mosley looked like **** even against Mora!
Agree on the DLH/Mayweather part. Floyd did face a better DLH no doubt but what you need to take in consideration is that no one (including me) before the fight gave Manny a chance of winning against DLH since he was clearly the bigger, better man. Everyone said that DLH was picking on a smaller man when he had the chance to face better competition in Cotto/Margarito/Williams at that time. ODLH chose Manny because he too taught it will be an easy fight other wise he would of chosen a just beaten to a pulp Cotto or a coming of a "spectacular" win Margarito. Other than that I still have Mayweather the notch on ODLH than I do to Manny.
DLH - I'm calling it even. Oscar obviously had more success against Floyd but was completely past it against Manny. Agreed Mosley - Manny knocked him down for the first time in 10 years and had him running scared all night. Mosley got dominated in both fights but didn't win a single second against Pacquiao. Mosley "knocked down" Manny.... Frustrated Pacquiao with foot movement.... After round 2, Shane was dominated by Floyd.. I say this one is even... Hatton - Manny damn near killed this man at his best weight. Manny was fighting Hatton, after he's been humbled... Hatton was unbeaten and fought like one against Mayweather... Against Pacquiao, he fought like a guy who has lost before.. Also, Ricky usually gets up there in weight before fights.... EVEN Marquez - Floyd dominated him completely. Most don't even feel Manny beat him. AGREED Cotto - Manny dominated most of the fight and stopped him. Cotto was competitive with Floyd throughout their bout. I give this to Pacquiao.... Even though I think Floyd fought a better prepared Cotto... I've got Manny 3-1-1 over Money. I got it 1-1-3
What a troll ass thread this is. I'm going to entertain the bull**** though. Oscar De La Hoya was (which we all know) at 154 when he fought Floyd. Freddie Roach chose Oscar for Manny because of his age and his last 2 fights weren't that great. This is what he said from his own mouth in front of the camera. He said that Oscar was the 'perfect fight'. Hatton was a balloon who got spanked by Juan Lazcano. Mosley was ducked until he looked like an easy night of work. Cotto was mentally broken. Manny's whole streak has been a fluke and a hype job. The only legit fighter he fought was Marquez last year. Manny is a ducker and a fraud.
Bar Marquez, Floyd definitely faced better versions of the fighters than Pacquiao. Personally I think there can be little objection against that. Who was more impressive in the fights is open for debate.
great post.... IMO: DLH= Even. DLH was clearly drained vs Pac but no one gave Pac a chance in this fight and he ****ing destroyed him. Hatton- Even. Pac brutally annihilates him but only after Floyd already took his heart and ****ed him up when he was a confirdent undefeated fighter at the peak of his career. JMM- Mayweather by far.....C'mon son this is the most obvious by far.....absolute slaughtering by Mayweather in terms of his vs Manny's performances vs JMM. Mosley- Mayweathers performance was clearly more impressive and vs a much better version of Mosley. Cotto- Pacquiao did better but Floyd clearly fought the better version of Cotto at his comfortable weight without a host of outside issues weighing on him. Either way though the way Pac demolished Cotto is unreal and maybe the most impressive win of Pacs career. I gotta give Pac the edge here. Mayweather 2- Pacman 1 with 2 even. Apples and oranges though folks...... styles make fights..... Bute has looked much better vs common opposition to Ward but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone with good knowledge of the sport that confidently picks Bute over Ward or ranks him higher.
