Compubox is **** and there is no more of an evidence than the famous Chavez-taylor fight. Meldrick outlanded Chavez three times more punches thrown and connected due to his handspeed and skill but he stood in front of Chavez and at midstage his face was a mess cause Chavez connected big and that is one factor that non-official judges disregard and Lederman had all rounds but one ( the 12th) to taylor... well, one judge had it for Chavez. You can say that he was corrupted by Don and that this guy Luis Rivera was corrupted by GBP to give a draw in the Hopkins-Dawson fight but when the fights are wars or chess matches, it is not just aggressiveness, ring generalship, defense and with a special emphasis to clean effective punching like lederman uses to say... And even if it was, how much weight has each factor on the whole score. We know this are Queensberry rules, 10 points to the winner of the round and 9 points or less to the loser of the round and this not necessarily depending on the number of knockdowns but also the dominance in teh round. Pernell used to throw few punches in his last performances but still he beat Cesar Vasquez and having suffered a knockdown... The last fight you can say Floyd dominated an opponent was against Cotto. Maybe against Shane, surely against Baldomir and Gatti (RIP) bvut not Cotto and that should be reflected on the scorecards...
silly question. Dominate is what the Klitchkos do to their oponents. A one sided fight. Cotto was not dominated.
'nuf said Competitive but.... Cotto won about 3 rounds at the most. I believe what Mayweather said about giving fans what they wanted. He laid on the ropes a bit more than he usually would. And he lingered on them even when he was on the losing end. But a couple things - I think PBF under-estimated what power Cotto would bring at 154, and for the first time, we saw a Mayweather that DID NOT look fresh and sharp down the closing stretch. Cotto's power had a draining effect. PBF does outstanding countering on the ropes. This was Cotto's gameplan, and the only feasible one. PBF knew this, hoping to wholly shut down this gameplan. Unfortunately, i dont think Mayweather was counting on getting hit as much as he expected to on the ropes. He was suppose to seriously outshine and shutdown Cotto's attack there, and it didnt happen. So, in the gameplans dept, Mayweather was NOT able to dominate Cotto, but was still able to win good enough in the gamplans...
seems like most you guys dont understand the meaning of the word dominate. floyd got his face busted up worse than ever before and there were rounds in which he lost convincingly. i think it was an ultra competitive fight and came down to the last 3 rounds where floyd stepped up and showed wat greatness is all about
Yes, can't see how someone can say otherwise. I have only watched it once so far but I don't think I gave Cotto a round until 6, he was competitive in a lot especially the middle rounds, but most of that involved him hitting nothing but elbows and shoulders while Floyd hit him with right hooks and uppercuts, to someone watching from far away it may have looked like he was landing a lot, but the great deal of his shots were blocked. Cotto had two very clear rounds and 2 or 3 close ones (that still went to Floyd for me) Yeah he was dominated. It was a convincing win, are the words not the same? He wasn't shut out but he was soundly clearly and obviously beaten at his own game.
This is what people are overlooking and not giving Floyd credit for. If he boxed Cotto he would have won easily, but he decided to go toe to toe and fight Cotto's fight - and still won convincingly.
