does anyone if Calzaghe's hands broke during his fight with Kessler?

 

I don't know for certain, but I never heard anything about it and I would assume that something like that would have gotten a few threads made out of it

 

Calzaghe isnt going to throw a 1000 punches. Whoever thinks he is should headbutt a wall.

Joe threw a shed load against Lacy because Lacy was slow, couldn't counter punch to save his life, had no jab, a leaky defensive and was generally an easy target.

Did Calzaghe throw a thousand against Kessler? No, because he was a very different opponent and he fought accordingly.

So, against a great counter punching spoiler with a southpaw's nightmare ace straight right hand, do you think Calzaghe is going to fight the same fight he did against Lacy?

Yeah I think the same. However Hopkins had not taken this fight if he didn't think he could win it. So I am curious though

 

actually he did. he threw 1010.

 

His strategy is to hit Calzaghe and make him not want to throw so many punches.

 

calzaghe actually talked to the camera in the hbo cast as the hbo team were summing up and said, something to the effect of.

"thank you for the grant`s my hands are fine , no problem at all, beautifull"

all in all calzaghe was very happy to wear them and it will be in the contracts you can be sure that he will wear grant gloves v hopkins.

The more I think about this fight the more I think Joe will absolutely batter Hopkins. It'll be the Eubank fight first round all over again.

 

You haven't even seen that fight have you? Regardless, I doubt Calzaghe will get much from watching a fight that happened like 15 years ago when Hopkins was in his late 20's and fighting two divisions lower.

 

Calzaghe doesn't need to watch Jones to know how to fight.

It's hardly a surprise, Hopkins has been a set counterpuncher for years now.
Surely no-one thought he was going to try to outwork Joe or come blazing forward pushing for a knockout...

He'll look to slip and counter, and is confident in his reflexes and accuracy winning out. Whether that thesis holds up will be discovered soon!

 

Like I said before, Hopkins won't take a fight he thinks he can't win mate:hey How he's planning to do it, I don't know. But don't count him out. This ain't gonna be a mismatch:nono
HOWEVER, I think Joe will win it.

 

I have read all these messages regarding this fight.Frankly it astounds me that people think that rough house spoiling tactics on behalf of Hopkins are going to be enough to win a fight of this magnitude. I have been looking through video clips of hopkins over the years. He is undoubtidly a great fighter but he is far too gone compared to his former self. If you guys expect the odd counter punch being landed (if he can) to being a route to victory then you are kidding yourselves. You don't just knock out top fighters at this level with single shots.

 

I would use that startegy with great sense of distance and timing - just watch some of the right hands that Cal takes in the Starie, Woodhall, Mitchell, Salem and Kessler fights and tell me if there is any other strategy?... When you press the action and dive in with punches, you get even more open to countermoves and since that is Bernard's main asset, why wouldn't he try to counter-punch 1000 times ( just if he cannot throw 1000 punches but that's another matter)? I think Cal is wide open to counter shots and even though he has tremendous fighting heart to fight through punishment, I don't buy that he will fight a similar kind of fight against Hops that he did with Kessler...
