Not debating sharkey v ruiz resume wise because it should be obvious.

Ofcourse golota gets credit for smashing bowe, why wouldn't he?

My criteria is consistent: resume, legacy and h2h in equal parts.

I was going on about sharkey's resume because you brought it up. I didn't discount losses he lost twelve fights against those 22 men, including to dempsey, schmelling, carnera and louis.

You're not debating it because I've just proven you wrong. Past prime Holyfield is a much better win than a shot Wills. Quality of resume isn't just a list of names either, if your job resume said 'worked at McDonalds for 1 day and got fired' it wouldn't improve your resume would it? Neither would you put on it 'applied for a job as CEO of Sony' but they turned me down saying I was unqualified but it improves my resume because it's an awesome job

I thought you said before you didn't account for H2H because it can't be proven

Imagine if Dempsey or Marciano had to fight with broken little toe.

    It hurts ! :|

You can't prove anything because we'll never know who the better fight in them two instances are. One guy was on a quality unbeaten run and the widely regarded number 1 contender. The other was about 11 years from his prime and would go onto to get knocked out by a middleweight and lose a fight so badly he lost his licence.

Yeah I did originally think that but you and popkins made good points. No point just going by the stats or you'd never need to research and watch fights. Without my own interpretation I might as well just pass off the ring's top hundred as my own.

Didn't someone break a couple of his ribs early on in his NY fights after he left the southwest(Dempsey)?

    EDIT: Yep. John Lester Johnson.

Yeah, John Lester Johnson in 1916, 10 rounds no decision.

But the little toe is something else. A man like Dempsey wouldn't be tough enough to fight with the hurt little toe. Only a warrior with MODERN NUTRITION like Haye can compete with such serious injuries.

Firstly I would suggest to you that classic forum posters have formed the vanguard of the argument for giving Wlad a top 15 all time ranking. Outside of a small group of rabit Klitschko fans, we probablyu give him a more generous assesment than most of the posters on the general forum.

The reason we are able to do this is because his resume justifys certain comparisons the great fighters of the past that we admire.

What we will never do is compare David Haye to or pick him over said great fighters of the past. The reason is that his resume dose not stack up. His crowning acheivment at this stage is a win over the #5 ranked heavyweight contender. This is not enough to put him in the same bracket as Dempsey or Marciano.

Dempsey would eat Haye for breakfast and give the leftovers to Marciano. Let's not get caught up in the belief that everything modern is better. The HW division sucks bigtime. The Klitschko brothers are good but fortunate that they rule a division bereft of any hungry tigers. 12 rounds for a HW championship fight? Please. Drop a prime Louis, Dempsey, Marciano, Ali. Holyfield, Frazier et al. in todays division and all the other "pretenders" would find another profession. Most of todays heavies haven't got a clue about infighting or moving thier heads or parrying a jab. Whenever a guy gets close they grab for the opponent like a drowning swimmer would a lifeguard. It's ALL ABOUT MONEY NOWADAYS. Forgive my rambling on but I guess I'm getting disgusted about everything "modern" in sports lately. Bring back the good ol' days.

Agreed, it's pathetic. Marciano was full of flaws and made a name for himself by beating bums and outslugging a few old, washed up champs, his era wasn't ¨strong¨ by any means, Dempsey's era was simply terrible, Willard is one overrated piece of crap in every goddamn sense and Dempsey is the most overrated boxer ever, yet people get boners everytime they watch their fight as if it was an amazing display of boxing, when it's just a couple of unathletic cavemen beating on each other with **** poor ¨technique¨, my arthritic grandpa has better handspeed and workrate than that Willard

That happens all the time both on the internet and irl, people following the herd, forgetting common sense and critical thinking and turning into parrots. We thought the internet would promote individual thought, but just like irl, some people are just in desperate need of acceptation, so it's easy for them to become old timer nuthuggers, it also saves you the time of actually watching the fights.

Haye himself, even with HIS ego would not agree with you, if forced to fight either of them, would **** himself on the way to the ring, possibly the worst two ever for Haye t fight.

Haye is a great talker and promoter, but when it came time to put up or shut up and show what type of guts and championship heart he actually had, he fought merely to survive against Klitschko. Can't say that about Dempsey or Marciano, who when it came time to face the champion of their day, came to fight hard and give it their all.

    Haye is crap.
    Always was, always will be.

Even by the lowest estimations, Dempsey and Marciano were better than crap.
