I know this is the general belief in the boxing world. Especially with freddy roach thinking he saw UV marks in his veins.

But i believe personally he just trained himself down to that weight.

Watch 24/7. He looks really thin in Camp, and even says 2 weeks before the fight that he's already made the Welterweight limit.

So Oscar wasn't a 160 fighter at this stage, who drained himself to 147 for the weigh in, then was unable to rehydrate back up.

He got his actual walking around weight down to below 147. So after the weight in. He wasn't drained. He had nowhere to rehydrate to., because 147 was his walking around weight at this point of his career.

I agree that de lahoya looked shot and done at this stage of his career.
But personally, i don't think he was drained.

drained or not he did it to himself, and pacquiao came up multiple weight divisions to fight him.

No, it was not his walk around weight, at all.

It was a business "fight" like the Mosley rematch, like the Floyd fight, and like the Hopkins fight.

Eh, I don't know. . I try to keep things as real as possible, and never make excuses, but I think Oscar that night was drained. . .

I think he could have overcame it if his heart was still in it, though. . . I think Manny's speed just took Oscar's heart so early, he never really had a chance . . .

So was him being drained the main reason manny beat him down? No. . . But coupled with the fact Manny was so good, is hte reason he got beat down like he had never been beat down before. . And Im a huge Oscar fan as well (one of hte few ones). . .

I still never understood the hate for Oscar? Look at all the great fights he's given us? Did he ever duck anybody? He arguably has the best resume (not winning, but just fighting everybody) in the last few decades.

Oscar and his the people in his camp are the ones to blame if he was drained. Didn't he weigh the same on fight night as he did at the weigh in the day before? That shows he lost weight wrong for a fight. He should have pulled a Gatti, and weighed in at the contracted weight, but then came in on fight night lie 20 pounds heavier at his natural weight. Even though he was coming down to welterweight, pretty much everyone was picking him to kill Pacquiao in the fight.

he was at that weight a week before the fight. theres nothing to drain if you aint got any to begin with. its part of their plan to come in light to keep up with pacs speed. didnt work. miscalculations on oscars team, pays for it.

I think I understand what you’re trying to say. And I actually agree. Oscar did not CUT his weight to 147, he REDUCED his weight to 147. So technically, Oscar was not dehydrated on fight night, because 147 was his fully-hydrated weight. The question, however, is whether 147 was a healthy weight for him at that point in his career.

This is actually similar to Morales’ situation in the 3rd Pac fight, where Morales hired the Velocity people to manage his weight. Velocity was a weight-reduction outfit. They didn’t understand weight-cutting. That’s why they reduced Morales’ weight to just a little over 130 (I think 138 lbs), which was what Morales rehydrated to on fight night.

It wasn't about dehydration (i think), it was more about loosing too much muscle too fast.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was a deliberate stratergy. Roach commented on it saying something like Oscar wanted to prove he could still do it. Perhaps Oscar's ego got the better of him and he just didn't believe there was any way Pac's frame could be competitive against his so instead of playing it safe and coming as a the much heavier man he wanted to come in at the same weight and beat him at his own game. In retrospect it's understandable cause nearly everyone thought Pac was just too small. Manny Stewart commented on it pre fight saying Oscar was the smaller man in this fight.
