How much did the Cotto fight hurt Mayweather's rep?

Mayweather's rep was actually enhanced even more after that fight.

 

it's funny. my gf and i were at the fight watching it live, and the crowd was erupting for EVERYTHING cotto did. at one point, between rounds, the camera is focused on mayweathers face (and bloody nose) and the crowd roared. this, and the fact that you can't hear the announcers or see lederman's scores on the screens can make it REALLY deceiving if you don't have seats close enough to the action to really see the details of the fight. essentially, the atmosphere really made the fight seem closer than it was.

at the end of the fight, i was confident that mayweather won. in fact, as we were leaving, my gf asked me if i thought mayweather was going to get blasted in the news for being gifted a decision like pac was against JMM last november, and i said that if anything, mayweather HAS to have earned respect from even people who dislike him for fighting the fight he did and doing EXACTLY what he told the fans he would do (aside from a knockout).

tl;dr : to answer your question, no. i think it HELPED his image if anything, and showed a new element to him as a boxer. he is much more versatile than haters give him credit for.

 

cotto only won 3 to 4 rounds, and he was the one busted up at the end.

This thread is hilarious. How can anybody show such a propensity for idiocy and foolishness. Floyd strengthened his reputation by remaining undefeated, looking good in victory and most importantly, fighting an exciting fight which will only endear more potential followers of boxing toward him.

I think mayweather did great as always. I don't believe he was carrying cotto to give a exciting fight though, cotto brought the fight. Cotto looked motivated, happy and confident. It would be interesting to see cotto vs pac 2 . (Of course if pac didn't ask for a catch limit) just to see how cotto performs at @ 154 against pac. I say cotto win 8-4 rounds!
