What prime version of any fighter would you consider unbeatable?

Well I thought he was being ridiculous & a blatant casual fan, but your post annoyed me too.

Hell, if that kid doesn't know Tyson was green as **** for much of '86, he doesn't know ****.

I'm just saying, compared to Ali-Jones & Ali-Cooper I, Tyson even did relatively superbly against Tillis imo.

 

That lackadaisical Tyson was so lethargic, listless & lifeless that night, with only sporadic telegraphed punches & no defensive prowess...

It's like using George Foreman from the Jimmy Young fight, as a measure of his best H2H abilities.

Both of those great men were extremely beatable on those nights, despite their ages.

 

If someone had said foreman from 74-78 was the most unbeatable in history I would bring up that fight.

Tyson from 86-91 was not only beatable, he was dominated and knocked out.

 

Just to explain a few things here....

I`d bet on these versions to beat any other versions in the same weight class that I`ve seen in full fights.....

Eg..... Willie Pep is the greatest FW ever & from extended highlights looks very capable of outboxing Sanchez but I haven`t seen one full fight of his to put over Sanchez-Lopez....

Robinson was the greatest WW & likely beats Leonard at WW judging by how great he looked in the few WW clips & some of his MW footage but again, there`s no full fights of him at WW to place over Leonard-Duran....

The Chavez that beat Rosario & the Whitaker that beat Haugen, Ramirez (2nd fight) & Nelson at LW looked just as good as Duran did vs Dejesus & might actually beat Duran but I`d edge towards Duran due to natural size in a H2H so I picked him.

As i say, no such thing as unbeatable.

Besides, Peak Tyson ('86 Ribalta to '88 Spinks) who was at his best Physically, Mentally, & from a Technical perspective... Is the #3 best Heavyweight in my extensively thought about Peak H2H list. I don't have him being even close to unbeatable though. Peak Lewis ('97 McCall II to '00 Tua) is the closest thing to an "unbeatable" Heavyweight, in terms of me favouring him over anyone else Peak-for-Peak, however a certain few Greats have a decent chance of upsetting him.

 

Robinson unbeatable at welterweight, Duran unbeatable at
lightweight, Hopkins at middle, Spinks LHW, Tyson at heavy.

For me at hw it's ali (only loses to frazier) then louis (only loses to ali) as my clear top two. After that it gets hard splitting because of what I perceive to be style clashes.

Some pretty damn fine picks here, BB. The only adjustment I'd make aside from replacing SRL with Robinson (although you make good reasoning for why despite Ray's 58-0 against welterweights) is to take the Leonard that beat Hearns in September of '81, the closest he'd get to demonstrating his peak IMO. Love middleweight Robinson too.. many don't realize when criticizing his record at the weight is he was 43-1 against Middleweight competition before he even got a shot at the title in 1951.

nobody will agree...i know that....but i was a huge fan - itv middle of the night showings of his fights were superb.
they say he didnt fight the best at his weight, but the ones he did, he dominated.

Some would say mythically the exiled 1968/1969 Ali who the world never saw fight would be unbeatable. Frazier would've given him the toughest fight of his career but I can't say that Joe beats Ali in 68 or 69. Nobody can and logic says Ali probably wins this great fight if it had happened.

Marciano is the only guy who truly answers this thread as unbeatable. He did take some serious shots from Walcott, Charles, LaStarza, Lowry and others.

 

Peak Lewis, was never considered widely considered unbeatable and got knocked out by Rahman, in worse fashion than Tyson did by Douglas. Lewis was out cold... Lewis never was even considered the man... until he beat a way past prime Tyson. ...Man thanks for my first insult on Eastside.
