Max Baer, you had great fights like against Schmeling or Carnera and then efforts like against Braddock or Loughran.

He seemed to hit good form at 130 after years fighting some pretty good oriental contenders as a little guy, like Cabanela and Sukhothai.

He ended up being a sex offender, so I guess he was a bit of a headcase. Not all that durable either.

Kirkland Laing is the 'official' definition of the phrase, he could blow hot and cold in the same fight!

Outboxing Colin Jones for eight rounds, before blowing it in the ninth, twice!

Beats a 74-3 Duran and literally disappears for a year.

On the verge of a world title shot, he totally outboxes Journeyman Buck Smith, before walking into a desperate Smith punch. Then comes back to win the European crown, when everyone had given up on him. Of course then he decides after looking like once again a world title fight might be on the table, to go to Italy and lose his Continental crown.

Then aged 39, having lost four of his last six bouts, he has one final hurrah beating the unbeaten prospect Dean Cooper.

I always had a soft spot for Buck Smith. One of the ultimate C-Class road warriors

Second that.Tremendous speed, great boxing ability, unusual fluid movement. When on point, like Marty Monroe very hard to beat, when a big time waddle, like Witherspoon, or Tubbs, you could just put the L on his record.

He was only hot and cold past his prime. Prior to the first Turpin fight he was 128-1-2 1NC in 132 pro fights spanning over 11 years. The only loss was a close one to Lamotta who he went 5-1 (1) against lifetime.

Evander Holyfield could be a very up and down fighter IMO.

Maybe James Toney's career as a whole? He was a great fighter, but he kind of fell out of relevance for awhile.

Chad Dawson blows hot and cold in every fight he's in. Can look amazing when he lets his hands go and then ends up doing eff all for the following 3 rounds. Frustrating as hell.

Herol Graham looked like a world beater at times but for some reason never quite cut it on the biggest stage and had a questionable chin.

I don't think Graham had a questionable chin at all. Why? Because Jackson sparked him?

Yes, post Jones through light heavy he was dreadful. Then bounced back with Jirov and Holy!
