I'm hearing Deontay Wilder vs Owen Beck

I agree with what you're saying. I believe it's a bad sign that GBP picked Owen Beck as Wilder's "step up" opponent. It makes me wonder if GBP lacks confidence in Wilder.

Beck is definitely a badly washed up fighter. I can't picture him offering any resistance to Wilder.

Pretty soon, GBP has got to match Wilder against a few tough clubfighters, dudes who will last 10 rounds, and who have the capacity to threaten him. That's the only way that Wilder will get meaningful experience and grow.

 

When's he gonna fight someone with a pulse? Go fight Arreola or Mitchell - I hate this kind of fighters ala Audley Harrison!

 

Absolutely true. I have a feeling they're going to end up feeding this kid to Wladimir when he gets a gift decision or something over a guy like Mormeck and they realize they can't even put him in with one of those guys and stay sure he'll keep his impressive record.

 

Dan Rafael is saying Wilder-Van Sickle on 5-26 in Mexico and I think Beck is for 6-23 in Alabama.

Beck is shot so Wilder needs to stop him in the first few rounds and Van Sickle isn't very good so he should get stopped early as well.

He's fighting these guys a month apart so thats a plus, when you're beating up guys like this you really should be fighting once a month or better.

Beck is a step up in name but I don't know if he's any better or worse than some of the other guys Wilder's been ko'ing.

He really does need to fight someone who can give him some rounds. I know he needed a lot of work but the best work he can get is to get some rounds in in a real match.

Stopping all these guys quickly isn't going to help him much. It makes the record pretty and thats part of what his team seems to be going for but a step up would be more beneficial to his development, even a small step up. I've always thought that he won't take any major step up while he has the perfect ko% going for him, thats a good marketing tool and they will play that up.
