It seems the general concensus around here is that Hopkins cannot win this fight. The majority seem to think that a Hopkins victory would be some kind of monumental upset. I disagree. But I'm interested in hearing what you think some of the things Bernard HAS TO DO in order to win.

He will have to fight an A+ perfect fight, which he IS capable of. Timing and counterpunching can't be stressed enough. Figure out how to stop Calzaghes flurries from being sustained or effective (something Kessler couldnt do, and poor Manfredo failed miserably at). It seems in the few fights I've seen him, when Cal starts his 11-15 punch flurry combos, most fighters just go into a shell and "ride the storm out". B-Hops will have to shut that **** down. I'm not ready to pick a side yet, but I feel B-Hops will do a lot better than a lot of Joe C. Mafia are thinkin he will.

He'll have to get the angles on Joe, and counter with short and straight punches. Thing is, this is what Benard does very well. Hopkins will have to hope that these punches have the power to discourage Joe, and he'll become the first to take Calzaghe out of his fight plan. Benard may find it easier to avoid Calzaghes flurries than the straighter punches of Taylor.
Styles make fights and Hopkins style is the best bet to trouble Calzaghe.

He needs to attack Joe's weakness...

-Joe is careless in throwing TOO many punches.
-His defense is suspect (he gets hit too much).
    -His footwork isn't always consistent.

Bernard is a MASTER counter puncher. That will work to his advantage. Hopkins has a terrific lead right hand (one of the biggest weapons against southpaws). Hopkins must utilize his "dirty tactics" (holding, clinching, etc.), which will throw Calzaghe off of his game.

Hopkins MUST be Hopkins. The defense and counterpunching must be there. The level-headedness must be there. The straight right must be there. The dirty tactics must be there.

And most importantly...Hopkins must implement this plan of attack from the beginning. Furthermore, he must have the energy in rounds 9-12 to deal with Calzaghe's stamina.

IF HE CAN DO THIS, HE WINS. If not, it's Calzaghe's...

Something tells me that the wily old fox may have one more great performance left in him...

Get a ref. that will tolerate his dirty tactics, and get three judges who are very pro-US

I am not sure about this but I think that Bernard has to do no more no less that he did against Winky. Joe tries to pump out the double jab, Bernard protects himself from the jab with the left glove and steps back step by step, Joe comes short with the lead and tries to follow up with the left and misses again, Bernard changes over and charges in with a right, connects and breaks the action, starts all over again... Hopkins just has to be careful once trapped in the corners cause that's where Cal will connect with hooks and straight lefts... Bernard can't do anything more than this and hopefully for him, that would be enough cause you'll see how unprepared Calzaghe will be to do better than Wright did... Oh yes, there will not be rough house tactics initiated by Hops as much as people think. That's all.
