why is it I was never able to box as a kid cause every gym around was 10 times as expensive as a karate, soccer, basketball or even a reg fitness gym?
it's the same cost as any monthly fitness center, and it's unlimited use for the most part. Karate has classes, Basketball and Soccer have practices and games. Boxing you spend hours and hours a day. You make sure you get your money's worth...it's the only way to compete.
rr94 hit the nail on the head right there. You GET more. It's not three times a week with an instructor. It's every minute you can manage. In addition - hardcore gyms can weed out the half asses in this way, the guys who aren't really commited. Which saves them time and energy.
in america i noticed its expensive, some of the best clubs in england only charge £30-£40 a year and alot of them dont really care if you pay or not.
Every boxing gym i've been to has been much much cheaper than a regular gym. I think you were just unlucky.
it really depends today where you go. with all these law suits going around liability cost are high same with martial art classes. when i was 16 we had a bunch of backyard boxing going around. just a bunch of guys beating up on each other. my high school had a old boxing ring but becuase of the new laws going into effect at the time they put it in storage becuase of liability.
Boxing used to be when kids could be trusted not to steal the equipment.. Unfortunately nowadays top quality gloves , pads wraps and gym apparreil cost a fortune and a lot of todays youths find it to irrisistable to have sticky fingers around the gym.. Insurance is higher now and prices show the mirrored image of these issues.. Streets, youth culture, Drugs and easily led kids sadly bring a bad ethic to todays boxing gyms , you can't turn them away because they are in place to save those kind of individuals , but they often like to walk away with anything that isn't nailed down.. i know from experience.. its sad but true..
Every gym I went to was cheap as hell for me, why do you think most boxing gyms are located usually in the inner city? It's rare to see a Boxing gym in the suburbs, there usually filled with either Karate gyms or fighting leagues, which cost bundle to get involved in.
damn u guys are lucky *******s, where i live u could go to a. some decent gym with crap equipment.(not that it matters, i could bring my own) with good space. It has good trainers but they could care less if your busting ur ass everyday training or if u fall asleep watchin tv as they all train their sons anyway. for about 140 a year(best price) b. a better newer gym that will give u attention for about a month and then turn u loose for 120 a month for kids 140 for adults. c.a gym with average but new equipment, nice clean facility and space with attention for about a month. Has 1 average trainer who doesnt train most of the time one other somewhat inexperienced trainer. 60 a month which is curently where i train.
