Can Andre Ward exploit Chad Dawson's weakness?

One thing I noticed in the Hopkins fight is that Chad doesn't have an effective left hand. Dawson isn't a true two-handed boxer, he is a right-handed southpaw who's best punch is his lead punch, just like Miguel Cotto.

The reason why Hopkins wasn't hit so much is because he would use foot movement to be in a position where Dawson is force to use his left hand. Hopkins was open to the left-cross the whole night. If Dawson was actually a natural lefty, Hopkins would have been hit a lot more.

That's not to say Dawson doesn't have an effective left hand. In the past when he was with Floyd Sr and Eddie Muhammad, he would use his left hand more often. This is what happens when you are constantly switching trainers, and I'm not implying Scully is a bad trainer, but he doesn't have a full evaluation of Dawson yet. It's something they need to work on.

If Andre Ward tries to emulate what Hopkins did, I don't think it's going to work.

he might try to fight him like pascal did but take a more tactful approach. like 2000 version of hopkins maybe, or might surprise us all and just do it in a andre ward way.but i think he would study the fights of hopkins and pascal.

Yes. Ward's versatility will probably just be too much for Chad.

    ...at any weight.

Yes. Young boxers are Chad's kryptonite. If this fight happens, Ward would wreck Dawson.

b/c of dawson's stance and ward's style...a cut from a clash of heads is very likely to greatly influence the outcome if not stop the fight entirely. i don't think chad has the pop to keep ward from getting inside and tying him up and his jab sometimes disappears. when ward gets inside, dawson's lead eye will open up again just like it did against hopkins.

The fight was made quickly. Both guys wanted it. Ward can exploit Dawson just because of speed. It is a tough fight for both of them. Hard to pick the winner. At 168 I would have to go with Ward by UD. At 175 I still pick Ward. at 175 Dawson could have used his advantage at 175 to be more aggressive, but at 168 he cannot use that too much.

As long as he keeps him guessing yes ..Chad can't afford to have mental lapses in this fight.

I think he almost gave the fight away by agreeing to 168. Prince Charles Williams did that against Toney.

Me too. Almost too eager. He has a belt which Ward would want, although I am not sure if they are going to do a Ray Leonard/Lalonde thing for the higher belt. Chad shows confidence and probably thinks his experience will beat out the Ward experience, but Ward will be at his weight and will be faster. And Chad cannot turn it up a notch and hope to get Ward tired, since he will be the one who will not know how his stamina will last into the late rounds at 168.

I hope he doesn't either. He has confidence that he can beat Ward. That is why he agreed so quickly. At 175 I think it is a toss up fight. 168 Ward by decision.
