if cotto wins his scheduled matchups for the rest of the year ( gomez, winner of margarito vs. cintron ) and the fact that he already beat quintana in very convincing fashion i would have to say i that cotto should be considered the ww champ, and also due to the fact that pbf is fighting dlh again and not fighting again till 2010!

Floyd could make a lot of $$$ fighting MIGUEL.

Let me just say, Cotto is one of my favorite fighters current. But let's be real: Cotto is set to face Alfonso Gomez, Ricardo Mayoraga, and the Cintron-Magarito winner. Much props for taking the Cintron-Magarito winner, but if Floyd would have fought Alfonso Gomez and Mayoraga this year, people would have been bashing him like crazy.

But that aside, Floyd is the real WW champ because he beat Baldomir (whom beat WBC, WBA, and IBF champion Zab Judah). So boxing politics aside, Baldomir was the real champ until he was shut out by Mayweather. Thus, Floyd is the real champ. Then last year Floyd defended his beat against former WBA Welterweight champion Ricky Hatton. Hence, Hatton was a legitimate contender and Floyd's TKO victory assures him that he his still the real WW champ for now.

floyd is the p4p number 1, he is set at a higher standard than miguel cotto, we expect more from the best in the world.

Cotto should without a doubt be the ring magazine welterweight champ. His accomplishments at 147 are the best by far.

He has some decent fighter but why would he be Ring Champ. Mayweather BEAT the Ring champ, so therefore he is the Ring Champ.

The only way Cotto can win that title is if he beats Floyd.

Bull****, we expect a higher standard from all great fighters. Cotto is a great fighter. Cotto is a top 10 P4P. Cotto is younger and more in his physical prime than Mayweather. There is no reason the expectations should be so different especially since many feel Cotto is the biggest threat to Mayweather.

That double-standard kills me. Cotto can fight these guys, but how dare Mayweather insult our intelligence fighting such inferior competition. Because Mayweather holds some "mythical" P4P status, he is the only one who we demand to challenge themselves.

Mayweather: Mitchell TKO, Judah UD, Baldomir UD, Hatton TKO
Cotto: Quintana TKO, Judah TKO, Urkal TKO, Mosley UD

    It's obvious who's more accomplished at 147.

This is exactly why Cotto is the true reigning and defending WW champ:deal
