No, he couldn't beat Calzaghe at his best and now he's on the downside of his career.

This is the worse Kessler I've ever seen, from being outjabbed, to eating rights, to his wide and telegraphed hooking. Looked like ****, very fortunate to have Allen Green in front of him.

No chance he's not even nearly as sharp as he was when he fought Calzaghe far too easy to hit, the reflexes and footwork just don't seem to be there anymore.
I think the Froch fight may have been his last top level performance.

    Time flies...

Best version of Kessler was the fight against Andrade. I still believe that version would have beaten Calzaghe, though that might have required Kessler to fight in Denmark, rather than in front of 50,000 welch, and maybe a team that could handle the pressure of such a big fight as the Calzaghe-Kessler fight.

He still did good against Calzaghe, and brought the best of of the him[Calzaghe].

Good to see you are still a Kessler fan. I basically lost interest, when Montoya turned him into another kind of fighter.

    Good hook though tonight.

    :cheers

I always felt that people looked back on Calzaghe-Kessler with rose-tinted glasses after it was said and done. The official story has sort of become that Joe dominated him in every aspect of the game from start to finish and didn't struggle for a minute, and that simply isn't what happened.

He clearly won, he "spoiled my boxing" as Mikkel put it, but it was definitely one of the toughest wins of Joe's career.

And as you say, Kessler on a different night with some minor tweaks to circumstances may have been able to do even better.

No, Kessler put down a beautiful KO tonight, but got caught with some good punches himself. This Kessler would get beat by either a shut out or damn near.

Calzaghe made some tweaks in fight that Kessler couldnt counter. Calzaghe was a chess player while Kessler a checkers player. I think Calzaghe beats Kessler any version of Kessler.

But Kessler did have hand injury, lack of sparring before the Calzaghe fight, also was overwhelmed coming into Cardiff with many welsh fans shouting. I agree Kessler would have done better in an immediate rematch.

Most people have short term memory. That would be the wrong assessment of how the fight was. Many rounds were very close. Calzaghe won most, and the ref saved Kessler from a KD. It was truely a vicious battle between two titans.

And you can print that :).

Yeah. I don't want to use the hand excuse(excuse on my part - I don't know the truth behind it).
