I'm looking for some suggestions for some new sparring headgear. I spar with a cheap, bog standard open-face (competition style) Lonsdale one at the moment. I'm looking to move jobs so I can't really risk getting marked up and would generally just like to get a solid piece of kit that protects a little better since right now I haven't got plans to compete so it's just a hobby. Is there any headgear that actually helps to lower head trauma and absorbs shock? From what I hear, the Rival RHG10 d3o Headgear is good for this and I have good experience with the gloves in the same range, however there is absolutely no nose protection with this. I'm not really looking to go the whole hog and get a facebar, so really I'm wondering if there is any good, shock absorbing headgear with just the cheek protectors which provides good nose protection. Thoughts?
Yeah, probably should've mentioned I wasn't really looking to fork out for Winning. It'd be pretty funny if I did though, haven't even upgraded the first basic sparring gloves I got, would definitely get some funny looks rocking up with a FG2900 alongside £25 Lonsdale leather gloves. Might have to do it just for that reason alone.
* I posted this in the equipment section i recommend buying this 149+ Shipping, taxes from boundboxing dot com. If ship to the states , i recommend buying a mail box there so you can ship it there. The shipping was only 12.99 for ups! Total of 3 days wait! I got the new wide redesigned version It is my first facebar headgear and a bit pricey 170 dollars but it was worth it. This content is protected Pros Well Padded Great Nose Protection Great Visibility Light Small For It's Kind Looks Great So i expected alot from this headgear before It got delivered and in fact it didn't dissapoint. When you press onto it you'll realize that that there is quite a lot of padding but it isn't that big for its style. Putting it on, it felt very comfortable from the inside, nothing feels very stiff or hard like the everlast headgear I used to use which was quite uncomfortable from the inside. The shock absorbtion of the headgear is very good punches will feel a lot less painful, the sting from the snap of the punches is gone as I expected. The visibility was much better than i expected, i thought i wouldn't be able to see many punches comming, in fact i saw almost all and slipped punches no problem. It fit great, especially for a One Size Fits All, circumference of 21-23 will fit well. The two straps in the back, the chin strap at the bottom and the laces on the top make for a snug fit. The colors available for this headgear are Black/Red for the standard, for extra 10 dollars the special colours would be blue/yellow/white. I sort of regret getting black, it looks cool but im thinking in my head how amazing white would look. So if you want a nice color for this headgear imo get white! This content is protected Cons One Size Fits All Certain Punches To The Bar Moves It Now the problem with this headgear is the fact it is a One Size Fits All. Now I have no problem with this, i fit this headgear perfectly, but the fact is One Size Fits All doesn't acually mean One Size Fits All. Also the two straps in the back are very good, they make a snug fit but Laces like in the winning would have been much better. Now I haven't had a problem with the bar moving because I keep my chin tucked in all the time so i havnt experience an uppercut to the bar or any punches to the bar but I've had someone lightly punch the bar from under and it definently moved, not too much but enough to make you try to adjust it but im sure most facebar headgears will move getting hit from under. Summary All in all this is a great headgear and i recommend you buy one if your looking for facebar/facesaver headgear especially if you can't afford the winning this is probably your next best bet! Great Visibility, Light, Well Padded , Quite Compact, Great Nose Protection. I highly reccommend buying this :icon_chee Score: 8.5/10 *This is my first review guys sorry if its amateur sounding or just plain bad i reviewed this somewhere else and decided it would be helpful over here.
Appreciate the review pal, but I struggled to find that bad boy in the UK - ended up deciding to get the Rival d3o headgear and learn to not get hit in the nose so much. I should get it today and should be sparring tonight, will do a review then.
