Those of us who practice sports every day since we were little kids realize what it takes to go in everyday and practice the sport we really love. We realize competition is part of sports and should be respected no matter what the task or who the opponent is. I do not turn my back on boxers who I cheer for at the outcome of their first or second and so forth defeat, neither do I bash the boxers who are on the other side of the ring. Anybody can be beaten on any day and there is always someone better on the horizon it is just a matter of time. True sports practitioners do not talk crap they just get the job done.

Yes, I think the big story, on both sides, is the trainers.

Froch had a perfect plan, and Bute seemed to have none. We all knew what Bute had to do to win, and he didn't do it. Who the heck told him to try to trade on the inside with a junkyard dog like Froch?

Thinking on it now, maybe a rematch would be more interesting than people have been saying all night. If Bute learned his lesson, and fought smart, from the outside, he might actually have a decent chance. We don't know, because tonight he chose to fight like a caveman.

 

Its a strange phenomenon but once an unbeaten fighter picks up his 1st loss he often ends up more widely respected & highly regarded by the boxing community. Bute deserves a lot of credit for taking on an elite opponent in his hometown when he could so easily have stayed in Montreal for the rest of his career & retired unbeaten.

Bute still has a lot to offer, a lot of great fighters have come back stronger after a 1st defeat & I hope Lucien can do the same. A move up to 175lbs might be in the future, he clearly cuts a lot of weight to make 168.

huge respect for the likes of froch, kessler, khan, tyszu and now bute who are prepared as champion to go and fight in an opponents backyard and it just further emphasis' the huge advantage most americans have by fighting at home continously. its seems like 90% of fighters who are prepared to travel to britain to fight, fold like a lawn chair as soon as they step into that rowdy british arena atmosphere.

Agreed. Nothing but class in the build up and after the fight, comes across as intelligent and a real boxing fan too. I'm a fan of his trainer also, he's like the Canadian Adam Booth.
