So I've only been boxing for about a month now, every workout i do has 3 rounds of shadowboxing, but usually more to get technique down since I'm new. I was told when I shadow box to use perfect form and imagine you're fighting your opponent at arms length. but why is it that I see pros, throwing flurries of arm upper cuts, and arm punches ingeneral with no hip movement and almost running in place standing completely square, just look at the vid of pac shadowboxing. I've seen many others do it this way aswell.
just because theyre pro's doesnt mean they don't have flaws in technique. Alot of guys get away with things due to physical ability.
Yeah Pac is not a great example to follow technically unless you possess his three great attributes: instinctive broken rhythm style, insane power because of unbreakable wrists and no fear of biofeedback repurcussions, and speedy endurance. It all depends on what you are working for and how seriously you are going to compete. Blinding speed? flail away. Timiing? Control your shadow boxing. (I throw a million arm punches quickly shadow boxing too, but I have no illusions of efficacy at a professional or psuedoprofessional level)
Right now I'm getting down technique so I'll go slow for now, but when I want to work on speed what do you recommend?
So what? Shadow box with good technique and improve. Who cares what the pros do? Forget speed and work on technique. Speed will come once your body has the movement down.
I always shadowbox using technique. I've been boxing for a month and some weeks, sparred 4 different people those punches to my face made me focus on technique. So, I shadowbox as if I'm still fighting one of those 4 people.
You will realize everybody has their own style of shadow boxing and training. Right now will NOT be the same shadow boxing as you will be when you get more experienced. You will learn to naturally move your head and body and your punches will come out without even thinking of any type of fundamentals. Fundamentals is overrated, its more about your style and technique (what works best for you).
But before they became popular they perfected their technique its like a poet or a lyricist who after learning a firm foundation...bends the rules to add in their style flavor or whatnot. Also in boxing there's that fear of film...not a lot of boxers allow to have real workouts filmed. Its for publicity so they restrict themselfs in showing too much of anything. Its for the cameras
Good technique makes you faster...you should shadow box with directed speed...its better for the mirror work. They need eachother
