Lennox Lewis only got his just dues because of great luck.

Great luck in that.. the HW Division directly went to **** when he retired.

Great luck in that the Kbro fan boys make people hate Klithsckos so much they ended up loving Lewis.

Great luck in that he is a physical specimen that people can use as a counter to the Klithsckos in h2h matchups.

All these factors contributed to Lennox being appreciated for what he is today.

Trust me if the HW Division went nuts after Lewis left

Lewis would have suffered the same fate as Holmes... and probably won't be appreciated until decades and decades later...

Nah, I think he's overrated just as much as he's underrated. . . So it equals out. . .

He's a solid top 10 ATG HW. . . Where exactly he belongs on that list is up for some debate. . . Somewhere from 5-8?

and #1 in H2H match ups

if I take off my glasses, Lennox is probably top 10

and top 5 in H2H match ups

Luckily for Lennox Fans right after he left, the boring ****s k2 with their boring as **** styles emerged in a **** era... hence forcing people to realize Lewis's greatness much much earilier then it was for Holmes

 

lastarza was a good fighter and it was not a gift .in thoses days ny state went by the round system no points.exaMPLE IN A ROUND YOU KNOCK A GUY DOWN TWICE YOU JUST WIN THE ROUND.UNDER A TEN POINT MUST SYSTEM YOU SCORE USUALY 10-7.rocky scored a knockdown and was wining the round comfortably.thats 10-8..another round he was wining comfortably he lost the round with a low blow.today it would be scored a 9-9 round.
rocky did beat other real good fighters before his title shot.rex layne was 35-1 a top contender and was the favorite in that fight.rocky destroyed him and his career.same with harry kid matthews another good fighter.moore did have success against heavys beating nino valdez and other hw contenders before fighting rocky.he wasnt washed up either and was ranked number 1 in the hw division while being light heavy champ.moore like walcott are 2 fighters that got better with age and were at there peak when rocky koed them both..
today with todays weigh inns and the dehydration used today rocky would be a light heavy.he would crush todays lighheavies and anyone near his weight threwout history.
why folks knock great fighters is beyound me.rocky in many ways was underated.vastly underated defence.same with counter punching.
the reason why rocky and other fighters are underated is because of ignorance.period.or predudice of some kind.the guy fought at 180-185 for a large majority of his fights with same day weigh inns.chavez jr weights 180 fight night.so do all the 168 so called pounders of today.180-183 figh night.his power can be compared with anyones at any weight.
so when i see comments like some in this thread it shows the original question is correct.rocky is underated by the shear comments shown here.ive even read on other forums comments questioning harry greb.and that he wasnt great either.im new here but not new to the sport.the first fight i ever saw it was on tv.it was marciano vs louis.
ive been watching this sport since then.
rocky like several other greats there kind may never be seen again.to close in other forums ive read that floyd mayweather is greater then sugar ray robinson.realy.

 

Couldn't agree more. Love Rocky but this is dead on.

 

You can talk about eras and the 49-0 etc... but he is one of these names that is bigger than the sport, like Ali and Tyson. His early death only cemented the legend.

Marciano was one tough Italian. He could punch and could take a great punch. He also had a very underrated defense. He had a lot of tricks up his sleeve. He would hold his own wiht any heavyweight in history!

 

Rocky Marciano put Roland LaStarza down in their first fight. From all I"ve read and heard about that fight (my grandfather attended that fight) Rocky was the winner. He just looked a bit slwo and had some trouble deatlign with Rolands boxing skills. Its true that Roland gave him a tough going but overall Marciano won. Now, onto this allegation that he fought 42 bums. Anybody that knows anything about boxing knows that Marciano was thrown to the lions early in his career. when he was 4-0 he faced a guy that was 26-0 and who was also a golden gloves amateur champion. People dont know **** about Marciano or boxing!

Lennox Lewis 41-2-2(32).32- LOL.Too soft and featherfisted for todays fighters.Overated peice of garbage.I can see Boytsov and Povetkin beating the crap out of him.Everyone in the arena knew who the real champion was that night.The fans,the analysts.Lewis fought one A.T.G and retired.He was the ultimate coward and a quitter.Marciano was undefeated.Lewis could'nt hold his jockstrap.Lewis would be a gatekeeper today.
