I would say that Prizefighter at least gets the casual fans more involved and may potentially increae the overall boxing fanbase, poor cards have the opposite effect and will even discourage boxing fans!

Maybe but I don't think there is any doubt it got very tied, very quickly.

It needs something to keep the causal and entertain the more hardcore.

I think you are overstating Matchroom's influence. If Matchroom pulled all their content from Sky would get over it in a flash. All the bollocks about how much Matchroom supply to Sky and it is mostly poker, fishing and all sorts of other ****.

In fact, as we know, Sky could quite happily drop boxing all together and it would no skin off their nose; they would still have the football and that is what really matters.

No, I'm really not. Darts, etc is a massive subscription pull and retainer for Sky. Football might be the jewel in the crown, but it only takes up a relatively small amount of screen time. And you can't have a premiere subscription platform with only a small amount of content. It limits your advertising space (still how Sky makes its profit) and devalues your product.

I'm not saying Matchroom would pull out, but they have been able to leverage the value of the relationship to shut up shop on the channel.

So far so good. Both of those shows were top notch. I hope Sky ensure that Maloney puts on good cards as well, first thing they need to do is pull the plug on any further appearances of Audley Harrison, i.e. Harrison v Price - should not be on Sky.

I think Fury Harrison would do massive figures on Five.

Whatever the criticisms there are about Harrison, people will tune in for that one!

You're right though, Sky should stay clear of Harrison, they don't have a good history!:bbb

When BARB officially announce the figures next week I will update the British TV viewing figures thread - can't be doing it right now, it's late :|

    :goodI stand corrected!

Maybe I should have said 'recent' history..............

I agree though, I think Price Skelton could have some moments of interest!:bbb

I think Sky deserve much more credit!

People always seems to diss shows such as Ringside but without these shows you woudn't draw these kind of numbers and big evens with big attendances which would not allow stars such as Bute to come over.

I've always said Sky is great for boxing!

It is great for boxing, and has been for years, it's fair to say that without Sky boxing would be in a very different state today.

    But...................................

Their apparent decison to significantly reduce the boxing output is very disappointing indeed; and for the me the quality rather than quantity argument being given by many is wrong.

For the money I pay I expect both quality AND quantity!

Any news on what viewing figures the matchroom shows have got this season and how many viewers did the Ward v Dawson fight draw in for Sky?

Ok Jonesy. Do you know roughly how many viewers boxnation gets for its live fights? I can't see them doing anymore than 10-12k which is what Setanta used to get for Cotto fights.

The Bellew card got 102000 and was 10th in the ratings at Sky that week. The Frampton card didn`t make the top 10 so got less then 138000 and the prizefighter didn`t make the top 10 and got less then 204000.The Bellew card was against Andy Murrey in the semi final at the US open which wouldn`t of helped the Framton fight clashed with Burns. The Prizefighter could of got decent figures but can only see the top 10 on the Barb website and it was good week for Sky Sports 1 with the Word 20-20 Cricket and a high top 10.
